The Tachek leaving Port MacNeill en route to Alert Bay - shot from beach in Port MacNeill - 17 March 2011. The Tachek has been spending a lot of time on this route of late, but not for much longer. Her upgraded sister, the Quadra Queen II, the 'regular vessel on this route, returns to service very soon. Photo © JST

I have already looked at this cam. I would have mentioned this to our ferry fan family. But, it would have caused some hair pulling as this cam refreshes every ten minutes or a quarter hour or so. Not good for ferry capturing, like what we could see on cameras at a few locations here on Puget Sound and Seymour Narrows. By pure luck, though, I got the TACHEK in this image on Sunday. That's her behind the trees at the northwest end of this capture. I watched the ship trackers today. The QUADRA QUEEN II did some docking practices at Alert Bay. This is similar to what our CHETZEMOKA did (she did more than everything here, though). So, I guess the crew of the QQ2 are in a training session as many things are new aboard that ferry. The TACHEK is still in service at this hour up there.

The change between the QUADRA QUEEN II and the TACHEK has been made. Early this morning. A ship tracker shows the TACHEK heading east in Johnstone Strait with a spot some 10 miles east of Cracroft Island at 0850PDT.
Welcome back to your intended service area of Port McNeill, MV QUADRA QUEEN II!

Greetings, Mr. Keenleyside! Nice to collaborate with you again. Here she was from this camera. You can see the POWELL RIVER QUEEN from this cam as well (be sure to refresh that page!) when doing her crossings to and from Quadra Island.
LATE EDIT: The TACHEK is now made fast at Texada Island. Quite a long day for her move crew. Don't know how they manage the hours and shifts on long duration moves like this, especially aboard the smaller ferries. Perhaps "Ferryman" might give us an insight on this.

The lovely & talented photographer Mrs. F. Horn traveled on the Queen of Burnaby today. While waiting at Westview terminal, and while on board the 'Burn, she took photos of the MV Texada Queen working her namesake route. Here's T-Queen nearing Westview, with Q'Burnaby still in the strait. T-Queen coming into the berth at Westview: ------------------------- Later, from the Q'Burnaby, here is the Tachek leaving Blubber Bay: Texada Queen and Texada Island: T'Queen on her way to Wesview

Tachek leaving Denman East-Riding the Tachek was fun, and it was neat to see her go bashing into the dock on Hornby Island because it was quite wavy! The crew doesn't think much of it though!

The Queen of Burnaby and the Texada Island ferry do a dance every night, off of the Westview wharf. - The Texada ferry arrives just before 8:30pm, discharges traffic, then vacates the berth so that the incoming 'Burnaby can unload, load and depart. Then the Texada ferry returns to the berth to take on her load of traffic bound for Texada. There is some transfer traffic between the ships. Here's the dance, on Saturday night, May 21, 2011. - playing the role of Texada ferry is the original Texada Queen, the Tachek.

Some more shots of Texada's Queen, from last weekend. - Blubber Bay backdrop - with Harwood Island in the background Powell River paper mill provides a smoke illusion for Tachek's stacks. You can see some of the historic blockships in the background. In the berth at Westview.

:)the shots of texada's queen are topical, but the blubber bay backdrop is forboding, looks a bit like a wartime concentration camp site, I don't think they will be using that in the travel industries glossys! :)mrdot.

Tachek seen heading into the cove at Whaletown on Cortes Island. - my vantage point is across Sutil Channel at Rebecca Spit, and I was interested in seeing when the ferry would disappear from my sight-line. She didn't disappear until the very end when she made the turn into the cove. July 2011, last sailing of the day:

A beautiful July morning with me sitting on a float in Drew Harbour at Quadra Island, watching a nicely lit ferry leave on it's first trip from Heriot Bay for the day. Perfectly placed sunlight is a good thing. Heriot Bay / Drew Harbour area is full of boats in the summer. A great place to boat-watch. Tachek ready to round the head of Rebecca Spit. When sitting at the Taku resort marina, you get a view of the Cortes ferry from across the gap of Rebecca Spit.

Tachek at 7:00pm on July 19, 2011, on her last trip of the day from Heriot Bay to Whaletown. - my vantage point is the tip of Rebecca Spit on Quadra Island. ----------- God is shining down on his favourite little ferry. I really like this shot of Tachek. One of the things that my wife & I enjoyed about this area was the various layers of blue-colour on the mountains, and the ocean & sky. ...and the snow-capped mountains and a sunset sky are pretty spectacular too. I liked this shot, and then I noticed something interesting in the water near the bow. I think these are some Pacific white-sided dolphins. A fine looking ship, 1 year younger than myself. More lovely colours of a summer evening.

My photos from the car-deck of the Texada Queen. - from July 21, 2011, when she was on the Cortes Island route. Towards the bow Showing the apron cut-out at the bow. - the Quadra Queen II doesn't have this. Trying to capture the upward slope at the bow. Looking down the tunnel at a beautiful day in the Discovery Islands. Passenger lounge and bridge. Full view from the bow
