The Tachek at Saltery Bay yesterday: Taken from across the bay at the bottom of a narrow dirt road. Fun to drive down, if you have 4 wheel drive! Taken from the Government float adjacent to the terminal: Does the ramp actually even fit down onto her car deck? It looks like a really tight fit, if it does... This photo took ten minutes of scrambling over wet rocks in the rain to get: From the I-Sky:

I don't know when we'll see an in-service line-up like this again, so here it is. - from the windy evening of February 20, 2012.

Thanks for capturing the rare event. Did you find out the reason why Tachek is docking bow-in at Little River, and yet NIP is docking stern-in at Little River? - And was the sunken-apron car-deck area of Tachek's bow a problem for the apron at Little River? And what was the atmosphere like on-board? Was it very crowded in the cabin, or did most people stay in their cars? I was on a fully-loaded Tachek to Cortes Island last summer, and I found it very difficult to walk down the lanes to the stairway to go upstairs, because of all the cars jammed in on the lanes. It was even difficult to just open my car door.

Scott, re Tachek and her next assignment at Cortes: - Did you hear anything from Tachek's crew yesterday, about why she's becoming the Cortes ferry for the next 9 months?
Is this the start of something permanent? ...just wondering if you've heard anything, or what you think about it.

Scott,
You have brought back a fine collection of photos of both the Tachek & the NIP. Nice work, & thanks for sharing with us.
With any kind of luck we will not see those two vessels soon again serving on the Comox - Powell River route.

Did you hear anything from Tachek's crew yesterday, about why she's becoming the Cortes ferry for the next 9 months? I didn't, unfortunately. Did you find out the reason why Tachek is docking bow-in at Little River, and yet NIP is docking stern-in at Little River? No, I didn't. I assume this was done to avoid turning around at Westview when resuming Route 18 service. And was the sunken-apron car-deck area of Tachek's bow a problem for the apron at Little River? The wooden planks are installed to make it flush with the deck. And what was the atmosphere like on-board? Was it very crowded in the cabin, or did most people stay in their cars? Relatively quiet. While there was a full load of vehicles, there were only about 20 walk-ons, including myself. Most people who had vehicles stayed in them for the crossing to Westview. I was on a fully-loaded Tachek to Cortes Island last summer, and I found it very difficult to walk down the lanes to the stairway to go upstairs, because of all the cars jammed in on the lanes. It was even difficult to just open my car door. Yes, the car deck was jammed packed on this sailing, too. While walking near the bulkheads was relatively clear, walking beside vehicles parked in lanes two and three was impossible. The task of navigating the car deck likely led to most staying in their vehicles.

The wooden planks are installed to make it flush with the deck. Thanks Scott. It looks like wooden-planks at the very end of the bow, plus removable metal covers further aft (closer to your photo vantage point). Good for them to build and keep a set of those metal covers. ----------- My photo showing what it looks like without the metal covers and planks

Why is she docked stern-in now, yet last time I was there, she was docked bow-in?
I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that the space-filler at the bow isn't in place right now?

Has BC Ferries decided when to the upgrade that the QQ 2 had done to her? After, the refit is done is she going to be the main vessel on Quadra Island - Cortes Island? If, the cable-vessel is going to take over Buckley Bay - Denman West is the Tenaka going to be retired? If, no cable-vessel is the Tenaka going be a refill vessel on minor routes alone with the Kahloke?

And your other questions, I'm pretty sure nobody has an answer, but I'm pretty sure the Tenaka will be retired as soon as they can get a replacement vessel. 2013 was the year they've set for her retirement. We'll see...

When the cable ferry goes into service on Buckley Bay to Denman Island route. Will the Tachek get a refit like her sister ship Quadra Queen II? Then after her refit, would she would become the main vessel on the Quadra Island - Cortes Island?

No new information available. If someone here knew, they'd have posted it here. But there is no new info available.
