Regarding Tachek's expanded crew areas, aft on the vessel: Photo #3 in the above linked Times-Colonist shows that this has been done. It appears similar to the QQII. - find the shipyard worker on the top of the cradle's catwalk, and directly behind him is the aft end of the new area, on the main accommodation deck. I don't see the cabin extension you're seeing, Mr Horn. If it's there, it's not like the extension on the Quadra Queen II, which spanned the breadth of the vessel.

OK, so upon further review, I can see that Tachek 2.0 is not the same as QQII 2.0. However, the aft end of the upper deck of Tachek 2.0 is different from Tachek 1.0, as seen below: May 22 & 23 2011. ----------------------

Ah, yes I see it now. There's a small addition extending slightly aft of the funnel, but not the entire breadth of the vessel as Neil had mentioned. I hadn't compared it with a "before" picture yet. Thank you, Mr. Horn for the photo.

Can someone please get a picture of the Tachek after her refit? Looks like she could be in service by the end of November to replace the Tenaka.

Nice photos. I personally like her upgrade more compared to her sister update. Does anyone know when she will return to service?

Interesting that she has indeed had her cabin extended, though not to the full breadth of the vessel as on her sister ship. I'm almost tempted to send BC Ferries an email asking why the difference in upgrade.

I must say, the Tachek has turned out really nice from this refit. I've always liked this class of vessels, but it's nice to see some upgrades. I think I prefer the way the cabin was extended on the Tachek, which seems to compliment her lines quite nicely in comparison to the QQII, which was more of a boxy upgrade. Keep in mind, the QQII had her cabin extended years ago as well.
I had spoken to crew members of the QQII earlier this year, and had asked their opinion about the upgrade. They seem to like the upgrades overall, however there were some flaws that came to light when she returned. They also mentioned that the Tachek's upgrade will be much better since the Tachek upgrade will have all of the lessons learned from the QQII. One big change I see right away on the Tachek in comparison to the QQII, is that the Evacuation slide has been moved towards the bow of the ship on the car deck. On the QQII, they noticed after the fact that the Rescue Boat must be launched prior to the deployment of the evacuation slide, otherwise the Rescue Boat would land in the raft. I'd imagine this'll be adjusted on the QQII next refit.

This is 7 months old, so take it with a grain of salt...
From an April 2013 Ferry Advisory Council meeting:
OK, so presumably this would reduce in a temporary shuffle: - Tachek would already be the main ship at Cortes. - Tachek temporarily moves down to Texada - Tenaka temporarily moves to Cortes
Sometime in 2014...

I am heading to a Victoria on the weekend. I am wondering is the Tachek still in her refit at Point Hope?

I am heading to a Victoria on the weekend. I am wondering is the Tachek still in her refit at Point Hope? Which Victoria are you planing on going to Mr. Cheese? I hear there's one in Australia too The Tachek is still at Point Hope. Supposedly sea trials on her are supposed to happen this week.

Just for acknowledgement, the Tachek is coming back to life with the re-appearance of her AIS position. Still at Point Hope of course, but I wouldn't be surprised to see her out on Sea Trials very soon

The Tachek is currently to the east of CFB Esquimalt Rocky Point on sea trials. cursing at 11-13 knots without any tug support.

A comparison of Tachek 1.0 and Tachek 2.0: - the old aft mast is removed. Replaced by a navigation-lights mast on monkey-island. Tachek returning to Point Hope Shipyards after performing sea trials this afternoon: - this 2nd photo is mine from July 2011 on the Cortes route.

Tachek was out again today doing sea trials, this time with out any tug support. This photo was taken yesterday, tug Storm Rider (and Storm Breeze for awhile) sat off Esquimalt Lagoon the whole time waiting in case help was needed. When Tachek returned to Point Hope, Storm Rider followed along behind:

Nice photos of the Tachek. I also am from Victoria but I never seem to manage to catch any ferries that go into Point Hope I always miss seeing them leave or come in. She does look good though!

Thanks Karl. I was running errands but when I'm out I always keep an eye on the AIS app on my phone, once I saw that Tachek was heading for the harbour I headed down there.

News story on the Tachek, with an appearance from Gord Nettleton. Also looks like they've installed the better C Class seats in the forward lounge. Link: www.cheknews.ca/?bckey=AQ~~,AAAA4mHNTzE~,ejlzBnGUUKY1gXVPwEwEepl35Y795rND&bclid=975107450001&bctid=2952627096001

Also, there are at least 2 different pronunciations of the ship's name, in this news video. Tay-Check seems to invite the mispronunciation. Texada Queen was easier to get correct.
