I like what I see! Judging by the Video, I can see the Tachek is the Bowen Queen Refit as opposed to the Quadra Queen II's Mayne Queen Refit. I'd love to see the Tenaka get the Powell River Queen Refit next, but chances are we might not get to see that. The Tachek looks great nevertheless. I'm looking forward to a round trip sometime soon.

The Tachek looks really nice. I always thought those little single ender ships were neat. Her interior looks nice though and more comfortable.

A comparison of sisters: - Aft of the port-side funnel, Quadra Queen has an inside crew area. On Tachek, that spot is an outdoors crew-only area. Both ships have an inside structure mid-beam, aft of the funnels, on top of which is the passenger sundeck on both ships.

Tachek arriving at Departure Bay, in the evening of January 25, 2014 - a stop-over on her way from shipyard to her training grounds at Blubber Bay. A very foggy night. It took her 30 minutes to get from the entrance of the bay to the terminal. I didn't see her reach the terminal, because more fog rolled in, turning visibility to impossible.

Sad to see her go, she's been a fixture in Victoria's upper harbour for quite awhile now.

Even though she wasn't the main subject, Tachek found her way into a lot of my photos by lurking in the background:

Here's what I would label a "Ferry novelty video."

The February 2014 issue of WESTERN MARINER magazine has a short article with photos of the Tachek's makeover. Most of the photos were from a private "open ship" event at Point Hope yard.
One thing that caught my eye: The bridge has a wooden wheel, at the request of the great Capt. Nettleton. He's awesome.

While the Women's Hockey Team was winning gold in Sochi on Thursday, I took off to Texada on the NIP to board the MV Tachek for her first Revenue Sailing Post-Upgrade. Here are the Highlights of the former Texada Queen. Warning: Very Photo Heavy! All Photos are © CS16 Photography and may only be used with Permission from the Owner.Once we Docked in Blubber Bay, the Tachek cleared her spot at the Mooring Dolphin and the NIP moved into the spot temporarily. Deck 4, Lounge, Tachek. by CS16 Photography, on Flickr Deck 4, Lounge, Tachek. by CS16 Photography, on Flickr Another noticeable change is that her Upgrade Plaque says "Life Extension" as opposed to BC Ferries' buzz word "Asset Betterment." Her Designer's Plaque is noticeably absent. Life Extension and Builder's Plaque, Tachek. by CS16 Photography, on Flickr Her biggest change on the Main Car Deck as has been noted before is her new Embarkation Station. Her Stairwell Doors meanwhile have been moved from the sides to forward. Good choice IMO. After reading Scott's post from earlier today that Tachek would be stopping at Swartz Bay this afternoon, I had to go and take some photos. It was snowing when I got to the dock off Dolphin Road, and windy, really windy. I took photos of her arriving but didn't wait around for the departure.

Some photos of the MV Tachek operating on Route 18, on Sunday March 30th. Overall, they did a great job on the upgrade. The lounge is more comfortable and more functional, and additional crew space and a new bridge were welcome improvements. The sun deck, however, had extremely loud engine noise, perhaps because of the new engines.

When Kahloke posts some recent Tachek photos tomorrow, we'll see that some of the outside deck railings are painted red. It looks to be a paint-job in progress.
Has anyone seen any red rails appearing on other BCF ships, recently?

Has anyone seen any red rails appearing on other BCF ships, recently? Not at all, and I work right beside a major ferry terminal. Is this some kind of joke?

Has anyone seen any red rails appearing on other BCF ships, recently? They're not painted. The red you see is a plastic mesh tied on to the railings. It looks to be a temporary railing system. During the crossing we were on, a crew member was toting metal mesh screens up to the Sun Deck. I'm assuming those are the permanent railing screens because they looked like they would fit there. I'll eventually post photos here. I haven't loaded any of my recent pics into Flickr, so that's why you haven't seen any on the Forum as of yet. It's so much quicker doing it on Facebook.
