Apologizes for the poor image quality, reminded of an important lesson today of why to never use Win 10 Photos to look at things directly off your memory card... Even if you don't think you changed anything... sometimes it does. So this is way noisier than it was before I looked at it. :/ Oh well. The 'not-in-service' Tachek doing a couple Sunday morning round trips for the NIP (who due to a lack of places to tie up has been drifting around Malaspina Straight). As seen from Westview looking north, blurry Savary Island in the background. Tachek and NIP off Westview by Kahn_C, on Flickr

When the Tachek used to be on the Hornby route in the winter, I don't remember the sundeck ever being open- just the deck aft of the lounge. Did that change with the major refit... anyone know?

I was glad to capture the original Texada Queen "Tachek" in my Powell River sunset video.
Here she is, in the first part of this show.

Tachek just pulled into berth 4 at Swartz Bay. The paint looks so good I thought it was the Quadra Queen II returning from refit, however a crew member on the Mayne Queen claims she is on the way to Point Hope for refit.

And I was lucky enough to see the Tachek pull into Swartz Bay. But I was surprised to see them spin around and dock 'stern-to' into Berth 4. Very nice! Saw her tied up at Point Hope this morning while going to work, was pleasantly surprised.

I guess having Bowen Queen available, and Quinitsa unassigned as well, gives them the freedom.

I kinda like BC Ferries has planned maintenance period for Quarda Queen II and Tachek because it gives a massive capacity increase on Port McNeill - Alert Bay - Sointula with the Bowen Queen. I think that BC Ferries I should have done the maintenance period for the Kahloke and Klitsa while Quinitsa fills in on Horby Island to Deman Island route.

Tachek went back in the water Friday, was hoping she'd do a test sailing on the weekend but she didn't move.

Very cool and extremely rare pose....... Tachek, as Tenaka and Nicola did before her, did a number of seasons as the second rte 5 ship, but, all three always docked bow in at Swartz.

Tachek had her first day of sea trials today after more than a month at Point Hope Shipyards. They started out with a few maneuvers in Victoria's Upper Harbour before heading out to Jaun de Fuca Strait for more testing before returning to Point Hope later in the day.

I'm posting these photos because we don't have many shots of Tachek at Denman West. (Why do I get the sense that I've read something like this before?) Anyway. Baynes Sound once again has four ferries. Only one transporting people, though.

I wonder if anyone on Hornby has floated the idea of buying one of those four ferries (the Rhododenron) and shuttling it from Fanny Bay to Ford's Cove. (no need to debate the logistics, I'm just being silly). - Flugel Teen

But I know you look in on the island facebook pages, and from time to time there are people asking- like why has no one else thought of this brilliant idea- why there isn't a direct ferry from Deep Bay or Courtenay to Hornby? Why is BC Ferries so thick? It's always a bit of a challenge to decide whether to respond. Most of the time, it's best to let it go. The time it would take to itemize the tens of millions it would cost to do such a thing and keep it going, is far more than the thought they've invested in their question. But it's good you're still in touch with the remnants of your teen self, Mike. Mine are farther in the rear view mirror, I'm afraid.

Tachek is rust bucket on port side of vessel. I am posting these photos of Tachek because we don't many photos of her in Whaletown. There are a few streaks of rust from areas where you would expect them on a fifty year old vessel. Hardly indicative of a 'rustbucket'.
