Took Bowen Queen this weekend as she subs for Powell River Queen on Campbell River - Quadra Island. Looking pretty spiffy! I suppose this will be her final top to bottom repaint before she's retired.

That preamble paragraph ought to mention that the BQ spent about 23 years as the Swartz Bay - Fulford Harbour boat, probably her most important role (measured by time) over her 50+ year career.

The replacement plans in that document Low Light Mike listed raises some interesting logistical questions regarding refit relief of the minor vessel classes. Quinitsa will become the primary minor vessel dedicated to relief for many years to come, but she's rather limited in what routes she can operate on compared to the rest of the fleet (hense why she's mostly been laid up since being replaced by the cable ferry, with Bowen Queen handling the majority of relief assignments).
Sounds like the future plan will have Quinitsa will spend most of her time on route 19 as one of the two vessels on that route in the off-season, while the second Island class vessel will probably have to roam around doing all the refit reliefs among routes running Island class vessels (18, 19, 19, 23, 23, 25). I guess it's not unlike how Bowen Queen spent much of last off-season on route 25, while Quadra Queen II served as the relief vessel for itself, Tachek, and North Island Princess.

What routes does Bowen Queen have her snack bar in use? I am wondering because most minor vessels don’t have snack bars.

Unless she's on the Saltery Bay route, I don't imagine there are any other occasions, unless BC Ferries wanted to give Fulford customers a treat.

Would really depend on if BCF has chosen to staff the ship with the additional crew needed to run the snack bar during her time on Route 5.

Yes, if she is relieving for the Cumberland on Route 5, the Snack Bar would be in service. Otherwise if it was to replace the Mayne Queen on Route 5a, it would remain closed. A few years ago when the Cumberland underwent it’s MLU, the Bowen Queen ran Route 5 and Route 4, but home ported from Swartz Bay. The snack bar was in service while it did a few sailings on Route 4. In one more week, the Skeena Queen will depart for MLU. The Queen of Cumberland will be deployed to route 4 and the snack bar WILL be in service. The Salish Raven will be deployed on route 5 but will only be serving a limited menu similar to what the Cumberland would serve.

Wasn't there speculation in the past about the Skeena Queen getting a snack bar at her MLU?

Langdale has had more action in three days than it normally does in a year! (Reference to the CI having been tied up there recently).

I rode the Bowen Queen today for a shoot on the island. While the Capilano holds more cars, our transit time today was on 13 minutes. The old girls still runs well!

Had a chance to ride the Bowen Queen for the first time to Bowen Island and back. The most interesting thing I noticed was we returned to Horseshoe Bay at Berth 3 and got to walk off the car deck there (never done that ). The Mayne Queen is definitely in better shape but I still enjoyed the quick ride. Boats to Nanaimo were cancelled most of the morning and early afternoon so it was just the Bowen and Surrey running that afternoon.

Any one know why the Bowen is moving to route 6 for April - August?

Any one know why the Bowen is moving to route 6 for April - August? To increase capacity on the route because Quinista has overloads during peak season.

Bowen Queen to take over Crofton - Vesuvius route on April 1 with 12:55 pm sailing from Crofton until October 11. This will most likely the final role in the fleet for the Bowen Queen.

Bowen Queen is heading to the Nanaimo. Barring no unpredicted service interruptions, I suspect this will be the Bowen Queen’s last assignment before retirement

Do you know how long she will be on the route? It’s supposed to relieve the Quinsam for at least a day so it can go and test fit the docks at Vesuvius Bay and Crofton. I thought there was a service notices about it but plans may have changed for now so we’ll see where it ends up
