The Bowen Queen at about 10am at Tsawwassen on July 21st. Taken from the departing Nanny. Arriving at Long Harbour, Saltspring Island. Unloading at Long Harbour. Boarding. Sailing out of Long Harbour. The Bowen Queen is, as of my last trip, my favorite ship to cross the strait on. Sure, she's small and slow, but she has a presence on the water. Unlike the other, larger ferries, she actually reacts to waves and currents on the water, so you feel a bit of rocking and rolling, even when the water's flat. She has a riding personality that the larger ships don't. I'm even willing to hold off my BC Burger in exchange for a 4$ hot dog or a Thai Chicken Wrap ;D

You are invited to the launch of the Bowen Queen: The Attorney-General's wife will be the sponsor.... (I guess that Robert Sommers' wife was unavailable on that day) ;D --------- from the Bowen Island Museum's summer-2011 exhibit.

Here's a photograph that isn't offensive or inappropriate to anyone ;D Notice that the curtains in the passenger decks are closed.

A friend of mine rode on the Bowen Queen from Saltery Bay to Earls Cove a couple days ago. Since I hadn't been on her since her last refit, I asked if he could take a few pics for me so I could post them here. Aboard the 1520 sailing from Saltery Bay. Apparently one vehicle was left behind. It appears that someone at BCF listened to passenger complaints about the metal seating and lack of tables on the Mayne Queen. Upper lounge/snack bar area: One of the saddle lounges: It will be interesting to see if they make adjustments to the MQ's seating during her next refit. It doesn't make sense to me to have plusher seating on the BQ than on the MQ, since the BQ is a relief vessel and some routes on which it operates are quite short. The MQ is the permanent route 5A ship, and sails longer segments on a regular basis.

wow the Bowen Queen looks nice! I havent even been on the Mayne Queen yet since her latest upgrade but I think I know the hard seats your talking about. I like the comfortable ones they have in the saddle lounge now those ones look nice. I have recently been on WSF and what I like about those boats I wish BC Ferries still had the bench seats where you could just flake out like we did recently on WSF.

BCFS may have wanted the same calibre of seating that Nanny has to make-up for BQ not having as many amenities. Although, I do agree that Mayne Queen should have had this interior rather than what we wound up with.

Those recent Bowen Queen interior upgrades were done sometime in October-December 2011, for $1.5 million.

That's some stunning scenery that she's sailing in! A nice change from the same old flat-ish Gulf Islands that we usually see her in.

Seen from Sugarloaf mountain on March 3, 2012, the toy-like Bowen Queen arrives in Nanaimo harbour, from Gabriola Island. VIDEOwww.facebook.com/v/10150654848818647- enjoy the view of empty Departure Bay terminal for the first 25 seconds or so of the video, then Bowen Queen appears stealthily

Seen from Sugarloaf Mountain on March 3, 2012, the Queen of Cowichan in berth-3 at Departure Bay, with Bowen Queen arriving from Gabriola in the Nanaimo harbour background. With a bit of zoom distortion, you can see how close the 2 ferry terminals of Departure Bay and Nanaimo Harbour are to each other. Probably closer together than any two other terminals in the BCF System (other than something like "Buckley Bay and Denman West" and others that are separated by ocean, of course).
