It seems that BCFS has added what seems like a permanent shelter on the vehicle deck of the Powell River Queen...

One more: MV Powell River Queen and MV Tenaka at Deas Dock, also from April 199(7?) As an interesting side note, this photo was taken from the port bridge wing of the MV Queen of Victoria, which was tied up in Berth 3 at the time. Fenk, noting to one side

From the collection of forum member " 7 Sisters", from his photobucket account: s226.photobucket.com/albums/dd105/7sisters_photos/- click on the photo to get to the full-size option. =================================== - she was altered vertically before she was stretched. Those "soon after launching" modifications always amuse me, thinking that the original design was poor-planning. Only 1 lane of over-height traffic for a route connecting Powell River to the mainland: what were they thinking?

Well, I finished up work in Campbell River early yesterday, so I decided to take a spin on the PRQ and take a look at the new car deck. Full collection and full resolution images can be found at: www.flickr.com/photos/kams_world/collections/72157605635210794/Here you can see the join between the new and old deck plates Access to one of the RAD’s Contractors where busy applying a new coat of paint to the outside passenger decks Is the PRQ the next up for costalisation I wonder? On the trip back I had an opportunity to get up to the wheelhouse, snap a few pictures and enjoy a conversation with the Captain and first officer. Very nice fellow, had a good chat with him. He works as a relief captain, mostly on the northern gulf island routes but lives in Victoria.

Photos taken from Tyee Spit in Campbell River, December 19, 2009: The many angles of the PRQ: ----------------------- - Looking like the superstructure is jacked-up, or a monster with mouth wide open. - Making the slide turn. - The white-word on the front blue-stripe (port half of the front stripe) is the max-clearance sign, I think. Does anyone know for sure? - I like this angle the best. - I like how the blue cover of the rescue-boat forms part of the blue stripe. Corporate Branding police will be happy with this. - With cormorants in the foreground and Cape Mudge village in background.

And if that were the PRQ, wouldn't it have the big ugly black smokestacks in the sides?? Big Ugly Smokestacks? You mean like this... For your answer I'll Direct Your Attention to the photos below...see if you can spot some differences. It appears those smokestacks were installed sometime in the last 10-15 years. If that doesn't convince you, than it isn't the PRQ, it's the Campbell River Queen. The stacks were added for the same reason the stacks on the NIP were added. Originally, the exhaust vented at the waterline, but there was a concern about smoke on the car deck and the exhaust was re-routed to discharge above the ship. If I remember correctly, the NIP was modified in the late 80s, so I would think the PRQ was around the same time. Edit: moved to the more appropriate thread... ;D

Photos from February 6, 2010: Arriving at Campbell River, at 7:15am: -------------------- Shots from on-board: (practicing the advice of "expose for the lightest portion of the picture". So I exposed on the sky, and when I later lightened the pic to see the ship, the sky wasn't over-exposed. wow, it works) - I like the door that's 1/2 way up the staircase. I think it's to keep the car-deck cold and noise and smell out of the passenger lounge. - On both my PRQ sailings today, access to the sundeck was closed. I wonder if this is just a winter thing? ------------------- While I was on Quadra, I looked for new photo vantage points. I found 2 good spots along Noble Road (just south of Q-Cove): - these are from a vehicle turn-around spot, at sea-level. - these are from the beach, at the end of Noble Rd. Just around the corner from Q-Cove. - Here are a couple pictures showing our Washington members' favourite Campbell River hotel. (this is for John and for Brandon....see if you can find your rooms) Shooting the rapids ===========

Thanks for posting the photos! It's kind of nice to see the PRQ in her old stomping grounds again. Also it's interesting how the Island Sky makes her look so much smaller. Say, how does one get out to Harbour Point? It looks like a great place to take photos of the ferries.

Just a heads up, Images have now been added to my post above and the existing images have been edited along with the new ones. Say, how does one get out to Harbour Point? It's actually quite simple. When you enter Saltery Bay, turn onto the lane for "Jenkinson Road," right before the ticket area, you turn left at the sign that says "Federal Govt. Floats," as you enter the road on your right is the parking area from the govt. floats and to the left continuing along the road is a logging road and log dump area, You drive up that road until you come to where the roads part go on the lower road that has some signs that say "Fairweather Bay" "SCT" (Sunshine Coast Trail), follow this path down to the beach and continue along the trail that is close to the shoreline, when you get past a sign that says Rose Beach, you'll reach a small switchback hill and at some point after this you'll see another sign for Fairweather Bay, don't follow this path, stop and look around, you'll see a sign for Harbour Point, follow this path and you'll soon find yourself at Harbour Point. However, take note, it takes about 20 minutes to go one way on foot. So to be safe, you might want to run for the terminal before the ferry enters the bay. I had to run most of the way back to the terminal to get those shots from inside the Terminal, it took about 10 minutes to get off the trail and down the remaining logging road in my truck.

Photos of PRQ at Campbell River, from the afternoon on August 27, 2010: - My vantage-point is the rock breakwater just north of the ferry terminal, accessed by the . - Some berth structures are currently being renovated, hence the barge. - The tour-bus on board is from Gray Line of Seattle. ------------------- Then in the evening of August 28th, I saw the PRQ in evening light in a busy Discovery Passage. The last day of the sockeye fishery brought out lots of people in small boats.
