8-)Annual road trip to the Island next week, and it'll be a five-ferry-trip, including the PRQ, as well as: Kitsap, Coho, Howe Sound Queen, and Bowen Queen. A ferry fan's dream.

I saw and rode the PRQ twice, this past Wednesday.
For starters, as I was waiting in Campbell River for my 3:30pm sailing, I decided to walk up the street a bit and film the PRQ's sailing from Quadra (the 3:00pm) from the sidewalk next to the berth. - I liked this angle and it was an almost-complete trip video.
Then at 5:45pm at Q-Cove, I was down on the Harbour Authority float to film the PRQ as she rounded the point to enter Q-Cove and come into berth.

Another week, another Walkthrough.
With the Tenaka last week, it's only fitting the Powell River Queen is this week.

Some views of the PRQ while en route to the Tenaka on a quiet Sunday Morning: Warning - Photo Heavy

PRQ seen by me on November 1, 2014. I am at the public fishing pier, just south of the ferry dock in Campbell River. A nice location to see the Discovery Passage marine traffic. In the morning... In the afternoon...

A Discovery Passage timelapse video of mine, that features 16 crossings by Powell River Queen. - November 1, 2014, from 7:00am to 2:30pm. Filmed from Campbell River's Discovery Fishing Pier.
The stars in this video are the changing sky, the strong tidal currents, and the marine traffic.
================= ps: - I am also editing a video of the same footage, showing just the ferry crossings, and at a slower speed. Hey, if people watch my ferry-horn videos 800 times, then there will likely be people that also watch a video of a ferry continually going back-and-forth.
But that one is tomorrow's upload.

For those who want to see more of PRQ sailing back and forth and back and forth and back and forth.....here is another edit of the same footage that I shot in Campbell River on November 1, 2014.
This is at "30 times sped-up" and so it is easier to watch the ferry's ballet-like movements in the strong currents of Discovery Passage. You can pay attention to how her course changes throughout the day, in response to the changing currents.

Powell River Queen in berth @ Quathiaski Cove, Quadra Island - 3 January 2015. Taken from the adjacent fishing boat floats just north of the ferry terminal. The loss of her saddle lounges way back when certainly made this vessel more efficient in terms of carrying a good mix of vehicles, & especially over-heights, but it did nothing for her appearance. IMHO, she is the 'ugly duckling' of the PR class trio. © WCK-JST by Wett Coast, on Flickr

Because everyone likes to watch PRQ depart Campbell River...
ps: no, the song "Rock me, Amadeus" isn't going to break-out of this cheesy YouTube music.

I rode the Powell River Queen a while back, and I must say that now that Tenaka has been retired, she may be my favorite ferry in the BC Ferries fleet. She has a very "classic" feel that I like. Anyways, on to the photos! Getting close to the berth at Campbell River: Waiting for departure time: I like the PRQ's large sundeck on deck five: Looking out the stern of the vessel as we approach the Quathiaski Cove Terminal: A little while later, I have completed my round trip on the Tachek. Time for the return trip to Campbell River! I love the lack of false ceiling in the cabin. Reminds me of the Evergreen State: Looking through the center tunnel. Very light traffic on this midday sailing:

I went for my Yearly ride on the PRQ Today, as a matter of fact I am still at the Library at Q-Cove as I type this. With the Burnaby and Nanaimo now out of service, The Powell River Queen is now the 4th oldest ship in the BCF fleet. Only the North Island Princess and the Queen of New West and Howe Sound Queen are older. (Note the PRQ was the first born of her class). The Bowen and Mayne are Slightly younger. www.flickr.com/photos/123779583@N06/
