Not necessarily all that historic, but a spiffy new 'Cumberland in the spring of '92.

Here are two photos of the Cumberland that I took while on the Q of Nanaimo going from Tsawwassen to Mayne Island on November 24th. Off of Helen Pt at south end of Active Pass. In need of a fresh coat of paint* - note the eagles in background. Both photos by JST ©* I thought rust was only a problem back in the terrible old pre privatization days before 2003.

A distance-shot of cumby from a year back. Why were her spiffy little bow doors removed and replaced with that fence, anyway?

The lifting arms caused too much hassle on the Capilano and Cumberland because they often broke down. They were removed within a few years. The 'C' Class vessels (minus the Alberni) originally had lifting arms, however they suffered the same problem, however while the Cowichan and Coquitlam's were removed within a few years, the Surrey and Oak Bay's were kept for many years after. The Oak Bay kept her's the longest though. She had her's until the Mid 90s.

Right, was going to mention they had them guess I was too busy to notice. Something tells me they haven't removed them from the Spirits as it would ruin their overall design. But that's just what I think, maybe they don't break down as often or some other reason.

It looks like the alberni to me. Nope, it is indeed the Queen of Coquitlam. I checked SiiTech, and QoCo's pointer shows as being at Esquimalt.

Woah, woah, woah. Since when does Cumby have gallery decks? Has she always had these? The Cappy doesn't have these installed, to my knowledge. It's weird, because I've never noticed these before on the Cumby. Do they ever use them? They must be hoistable, like on the Spirits, right?
