I was on the HSQ ( aka Hound dog) yesterday. They have realy upgraded the passenger area and washrooms. It is a considerable improvement.

The Howe Sound Queen is a pretty bizarre looking boat, even more so now with the long covered stairway, and that lovely little 'lounge' on the main deck. My younger daughter thought that the redone main lounge was a small ferry pretending to be a big one. Still, the HSQ looked fairly spiffy with it's new 'do', and I think I like it better than I used to, in an oddball sort of way. The boat, not me.

I took a trip on the Hound Dawg tonight, for a work-related trip. Of course, I took my camera, to get some dusk / night shots of the ship. HSQ leaving Crofton on her 4:30pm sailing. I just missed this. But I get to spend an hour on the Crofton jetty; nice & peaceful. HSQ arriving back at Crofton at 5:20pm. I've lightened-up the pic. She's just switched-on her spot lights. After my SSI work was completed, I waited at Vesuvius Bay for the HSQ. Here she comes. Nearing Crofton, I can see that the pulp-mill is nicely lit-up

Some pics of the ol' Hound Dog from today. I had to make a quick little trip over to SSI today to get myself sorted out for a place to live over there. I'll be seeing alot more of the Howe Sound Queen this weekend as I go back and forth to the Island while I try and move all of my stuff over to Salt Spring.

Wow, she's changed quite a bit since I worked on her or even since the last time I sailed on her on a day trip to SSI. That trip was in 2004. I think I agree with Neil on this, that her looks have improved.

A rare shot with the HSQ operating with switched ends, March 9th. In other words, here's the Crofton end docked at Vesuvius. This caused a bit of a delay to do, since the school bus (this was the bus being used as the temporary lounge while the regular lounge was being worked on) that was parked on board needed to be towed off the ship. However the tow truck came from Crofton, but the bus was parked in such a way, it was easier to tow it off from the Vesuvius end, and the ship isn't wide enough to make the turn around onboard. This had regular passengers scratching their heads, and thinking that there was a whole different ship being used. She was turned back around by the end of the day once the traffic had tapered right off. Crofton end at the dock, while at Vesuvius The bus that was used as the temporary passenger lounge, while the ships lounge was being repaired.

Here are some photos of the Howe Sound Queen from last week. I must say despite her strange looks, she is one of my favourite ferries to ride on. Leaving Crofton On the way with the first and only sun of the trip Leaving Crofton My favourite picture of the trip; an odd angle for an odd ship

Does anyone know how the Howe Sound Queen was transported from Quebec in 1971 when it formerly operated as the "Napoleon L?" Did it sail all the way around to BC or was it carved up and put back together a-la MV Kuper??
