I found a re-upload of the same movie that had the short clip of the ‘Victoria. Interesting views of the V Class pre lifting! (Skip to 49:40)

Why was the Queen of Victoria only able to carry 286 vehicles compared to the Queen of Vancouver vehicles capacity was 338? When did that reduction on Queen of Victoria occur?

Why was the Queen of Victoria only able to carry 286 vehicles compared to the Queen of Vancouver vehicles capacity was 338? When did that reduction on Queen of Victoria occur? It has to do with hoistable ramps used (or not used) on the main car decks. The Esquimalt & Saanich had ramps that covered almost all of the main car deck meaning very little over-height traffic could be accommodated. They had listed auto capacities of almost 400 as a result. The Vancouver had ramps above two lanes only and hence an auto capacity of 338. As far as I know, the Victoria had no ramps at all after the lifting was done. Using those ramps made it pretty much impossible to keep the schedule so there were used infrequently or not at all. In reality the capacity of all the V's was 286, & I believe that is what the New West was also listed at (now listed as 254).
