Does anyone know about what whistles the Queen of Vancouver had and what chord it played? The whistle on the Queen of Vancouver sounded an E major chord.

If you are asking who the manufacturer is, I think it was Airchime. If you ask a specific question, we can usually give you a specific answer. Keep in mind that this is a discussion forum, a bit different from YouTube comments. We're more about depth of discussion here, so take a moment to formulate your questions, and then you can usually get the answer the first time, and have a good conversation about it. Cheers !

I am fairly sure that all (or certainly most) of the 1960's built Spaulding designed BC Ferries had the same whistles (horns) as the Nanaimo still has. The sound to me is a 'signature' BC Ferries sound that many more recent ferries lack. The horn sound matched the beautiful pastel blue livery on the ships. The horns sounded (& still do sound) lovely as the ships threaded their ways through Active Pass. Standing on the foredeck of the Vancouver, or any of her sisters, & listening to the whistle echo amoung the islands was (is) music to the ears (even if a little hard on the ears).

Yes, I miss the days of hearing the three short and one long blasts from a BC ferry approaching the terminal. It's nice that the Coho still does her one long and two shorts. Does anyone know why BCF ended this practice?

Here's a link to the full set, from Scott's August 7, 2012 work LINKThere's a shot of the ex- ' Chilliwack in the photos mybidness459 linked to... from the amount of rust visible, I'd say it's a good thing that most of the bulwarks are painted black.

Just a few more of the Vancouver from the archives from 40 years ago. Life on the coast, the more it changes the more its stays the same. Just like the Queen of Sidney/Tsawwassen, were all the BCF's like this before the were re-built

Queen of Vancouver southbound near the north end of Active Pass (near Georgina Point) - 1978.
This is a scan of a colour 'Kitschrome' slide shot by my brother John sometime in 1978. I believe that this pic has been posted by me on this forum maybe 10 years ago. Back then, however, I was not able to say for sure if this was the Vancouver or its almost identical twin. My brother John worked for BC Tel back then and occasionally was sent to one of the Gulf Islands to do some work. Usually he brought his Olympus OM-1 camera with him.
