It looks like the Saanich may be tied up in the same place the Sunshine Coast Queen was in the mid-80's before she made her ill-fated trip across the Pacific. I hope this isn't a bad omen for the Saanich.
PS Thanks very much for getting those photos, Scott!

I took a quick drive past the Queen of Saanich on my way home from work this evening. It was getting dark out, so photos wouldn't have worked.
She looks really dark and cold inside. She looks strange with no name on the side, and no company branding of course either. However, she still proudly sports the Coat of Arms below the bridge.

Yes, it is the Saanich. She was the only V to have the Hydroxyl treatment system.

Of course. Silly me. How could I have forgotten the Hydroxyl treatment system?.

Why did the Saanich have those ugly valences in the window, anyway?? I know that they didn't coastalize her, but still. Those things were horrid. Couldn't they have removed them when they went out of style to everyone but my great, great Grandpa?

Peek-a-boo view at the Port of Nanaimo's assembly-wharf: (thanks to the bridge windows, I know that this is the Saanich, not the Vancouver)

I have no photos to post unfortunately, since my cell phone was dead by the time I saw this.
The Queen of Saanich left Nanaimo this morning, and I got to watch her sail by under tow by the jobsite I was working at near Hammond Bay in Nanaimo. I had an excellent view of this for about 3-4 hours because they were moving so slow. The Saanich and the tug Sea Imp IX are heading up the Strait as I type this message. She's currently just off of Little River, and is fairly close to the Queen of Burnaby at the moment. My guess is she's headed for Campbell River. So this sounds like a job for our vessel trackers to figure out where she goes tonight.
On the way home from work, I drove past the Nanaimo assembly warf to find the Vancouver still tied up there. This is somewhat puzzling to me, because if BC Ferries is just simply repositioning the Saanich, that means they had to move the Vancouver out of the way to get the Saanich out. So it would have made more sense to just move the Vancouver because she was tied up along the outside of the Saanich. So if they specifically moved the Saanich, I'm wondering if shes been sold?

A-News reported tonight that the Saanich has been sold. They had some video of her voyage today. No mention of who the purchaser is or what the destination is. My wife saw the vessel on the move today too. I told her that she must have been mistaken. I'm now eating crow.... As to her location: - I'll keep my eyes on SiiTech for a while. Thanks for the tip, Chris.

The Sea Imp IX made a brief appearance again in a stopped position just after 1:00pm today at 50°28.058'N 126°09.651'W (copy/paste those co-oridinates in on google maps). I'm assuming this is where she has let go of the Saanich, and there was no other vessels listed nearby on Siitech at the time. So I suppose the Saanich is simply just sitting just further up the Strait from Kelsey Bay, unless something else was sitting there waiting to pick her up to take her to the final destination. The Sea Imp IX is also now currently steaming full speed ahead Southbound in the Georgia Strait. Someone on Flickr managed to snap a photo as she coasted past Nanaimo yesterday. www.flickr.com/photos/georgiastrait/4253457738/

So, has our lady moved again yet? I found the Sea Imp IX moving south-east in The Gulf of Georgia at 9kn. Her destination says: LOCAL TOWING here's my SiiTech Screenshot, as of 5:28pm EDIT: It appears The Sea Imp left radar somewhere in Malaspina Strait close to Texada Island.

Great find, Cobblehillian. All of the photos presently shown of her were taken at the Nanaimo Assembly Wharf. Considering that she is no longer there, I wonder if someone did infact purchase her just to turn around and make a profit... While the information (except for the misspelling of her Waukesha emergency generator) and photos are of the Saanich, I find it odd that the location is inaccurate in such a recent listing...

The Q of S first shows up on the Harlow Marine site. (see Ferryman's note of 10Jan. on this thread) I do not know when she was first listed on that site. She continues to be shown on that site but now as "SOLD". She now is For Sale on the Pacific site with a new name.
I think the listing price is exceedingly high for a 47 year old vessel, and was, of course, set that way to open negotiations. However, if the flip, assuming there was one, was at 'arm's length' and provided the first seller with a good profit I can't see much profit remaining for the second seller especially in view of the third world market the vessel might appeal to. It does not appear to be marketed as a "fish camp" or alternate use vessel.

Had a chat with the new owner of the Queen of Saanich last night while I was traveling on the Coquitlam to Langdale. I didn't know he had bought her until we started talking. Not much happening right now but they are investigating some options. She is secured near Kelsey Bay. If I hear anything newsworthy, I'll let you know.

I just had a conversation with a friend of my brother in law who is a fisherman and he just arrived home from fishing up north, He said that he saw the Queen of Saanich in a Bay just south of Adams River. He said the ship has some Trucks on the car deck, and he figures it is been used as a fishing camp

If this is true, it's nice to know the former Queen of Saanich still has some living souls aboard her regularly

If it IS in fact the Saanich, my wife's uncle works for a logging company that bought the boat and it's a live-aboard camp for all the workers... Apparently the forward windows on the main deck all are seperate rooms right now that look out the front of the vessel and the bridge has become the office, the ferry runs fine but nobody is qualified to operate it so it's cheaper to bring in a tug. He is getting me some photos hopefully this week and i'll post them as soon as i get them
