:)it is particularly evocative viewing the expo livery of the late 1980's and in direct contrast to the first livery of brother witecoast's signature pic. immediately below, those dogwood generation shots look very shipshape to my ageing eyes ::)mrdot.

Here is a another new scan taken from an old slide of mine dating from 28 June 1972, almost 40 years ago. This photo was taken not long after the vessel was stretched. Queen of Saanich in Georgia Strait between Active Pass and Tsawwassen. Photo © JST from the Wett Coast Flickr Site

I love that shot. It looks like it could've been yesterday, there's nothing really out of place except for the paint scheme. How cool would it be if we saw the Queen of Burnaby coming out of her next refit with a 'heritage' paint scheme? Now that's something we should propose to BCF!

:)all these shots from the first generation of the BC ferry fleet look splended, reason being they display the original livery, and no political add ons! I do not know any re-branding in shipping industry that is an improvement on original design. :)mrdot.

Here is yet another 'VueScan' scan of a 1972 slide of mine. This shows the Queen of Saanich among islands near Swartz Bay. I am unable to place this exactly and would appreciate any suggestions as to just what islands we see in the background. At the time of this photo I was with the Mt. Doug High School (Victoria) track & field team en route to Kelowna for the BC High Schools' Championships.

re Queen of Saanich:
I was talking with an acquaintance today who has some friends in the shipping business, and he said that he'd heard that a Chinese company was brokering a deal to buy 2 ex BC Ferries, to take to China for scrapping.
He said one was the ship in Johnstone Strait (Queen of Saanich) and the other was "a ship moored in a river". - I would be surprised if that was actually the Queen of Sidney. I'm thinking it's more logical that it would be the Queen of Vancouver.
But who knows, just some 3rd-hand talk. - we'll see what happens.

:)our pvte. ferry corp. must have been dreaming thinking their was a real mkt. for these discarded V's, and probably Esquimalt, Saanich, and Vancourver will find their way to an orient graveyard! it's not a happy thought, but sad reality. :'(mrdot.

I wonder if those are recent pictures? If so, it looks like she's hardly been touched.

The Saanich is on the move! She was being towed down past the Sunshine Coast around 11:00 this morning. I got the camera out and got what I believe are my absolute last photos of her. I didn't get a chance to see what outfit is towing her or her destination. keep a lookout for her!

Probably if you know the name of the tug that is towing her, lol cause I she wont show up if she is being towed just the tug that's pulling her would show up.

Thanks for getting those shots, Rob! Interesting to note that her bow doors remain open... It has been a while since we have had a ship quietly moved to an unknown location... Let the search begin... Late Edit: I have checked the TC ship registry and the owners address has recently changed from Cassidy to Gibsons, but the company remains the same. While not an indication of her location, just thought I would point out that minor change. * Listing showing price reduction to $750,000.

I was wondering about the open bow doors as well. I assumed they were left open because the tow was a short one, (maybe), in sheltered waters. HMM, I wonder where she is? Really, how hard is it to hide a 426' ferry?

At least Mexico has SOME environmental and workplace safety regulations. To be perfectly honest, I'd rather see these ships recycled into something reasonably useful than sit and rot like the 'Sidney.
