Refit season is once again almost here, so here's a thread for discussing vessel refits that will occur from now until next June.
Here's a couple that will happen soon:
The Queen of Coquitlam is getting a 2 month refit beginning September 4th.
According to the travel centre, the Bowen Queen will be replacing the Queen of Capilano from October 14th to November 17th.

the Coquitlam is in need of a refit badly. And a refit she shall receive! She is getting a 2 month refit after Labour Day, almost a month of which is in drydock, according to what a route 3 crewmember told me 2 weeks ago. Lets hope any new paint she receives holds up better than the paint on the Burnaby.

No. Queen of Nanaimo will not likely see a refit until the end of 2013, early 2014, which is supposed to be the final refit. It has already been two years since the last refit she had.

By 'not getting a refit', does that mean that she won't even be getting paint touch-ups? I'm not looking forward to seeing more rust...

She'll definitely continue to have paint touch ups as necessary. The ship doesn't necessarily need a refit status to have work done to it. Alot of projects get taken care of overnight as it is when the ship is tied up.

Coastal Renaissance left Departure Bay very early this morning for refit at Esquimalt Graving Dock. At about 07:00 this morning it was making its final approach at Swartz Bay for a brief stopover at Swartz Bay to drop off crew vehicles. At the moment it almost appears it is at anchor in Esquimalt Harbour, possibly waiting for the drydock to flood?
Meanwhile, the Quinitsa is already up on the ways at Vancouver Shipyards.

Will the Klitsa be getting a refit this year? In short answer, no. As of last night, there was quite the vessel swap which occured. The Quinitsa made her way back home from Vancouver Shipyards, freeing up the Kahloke who went back to Hornby Island. Upon the arrival at Hornby, the Kahloke passed the ship switch torch on to the Tenaka, who ventured up to Cortes Island to allow the Tachek to go to her major refit. Tachek is now at Deas and will be just starting the first stages of her major refit.

Deas is getting pretty crowded with Ferries right now. At the moment we have:
Berth 1: Spirit of Vancouver Island Berth 2: Queen of Oak Bay Berth 3: Queen of Chilliwack Berth 4: Northern Adventure Berth 5/6: Tachek?? Berth 7: Powell River Queen

That was the case as of 11:30 AM this morning. However, looking on Siitech, there are two tugs at Deas currently, and it looks like the SoVI may be on her way out... Late Edit: I mistook the tugs for the Oak Bay as tugs moving the SoVI. My mistake.

Shipyard workers and ferry geeks alike are excited I'm sure... At least I know I am.
Sounds like the Coastal Celebration is getting her first ever drydocking.

Sounds like the Coastal Celebration is getting her first ever drydocking. I'm assuming it will be during this period that we will see the same partial wrap removal that we have seen on the Renaissance and Inspiration.

This sounds like a reprinted press release from BCFS headquarters. The claim that this will be the " busiest-ever period for major ship refits" reminds me of the claim a few years ago re the largest new build program in the history of BC Ferries (when the three Coastal Class vessels, the Island Sky & the NorEx were being built). The last part of the 'press release' above lists work happening over two refit seasons. It seems to me that all the major vessels have at least some refit work done every year. I believe that every ship, big & small, has major work, including dry-docking, done every third or fourth year. There are some major upgrades on the books which all seem to be referred to as 'mid-life upgrades'. In reality they are often life extension projects being done on vessels that due to their age ought to be replaced. I am not convinced that what is being claimed here is anything out of the ordinary.

Captain Alex has confirmed on one of his Flickr photo comments that that is going to happen this spring. Advertisements for the Vancouver Olympics three years after the games closed ought to be embarrassing for BCFS... Will they reveal the blue stripes as on the CR, or leave them covered up, as on the CI?
