Me and my family are thinking about going to Seattle during the week of Christmas and New Years. Would you recommend going to Bainbridge Island, Bremerton or both? If we go to Bainbridge would you say to walk on or drive on the ferry? If we go Bremerton could we walk around the town without taking our car on the ferry? Can we park our car at Colman Dock? What else can we do in Seattle?

If we go to Bainbridge would you say to walk on or drive on the ferry? If we go Bremerton could we walk around the town without taking our car on the ferry? Can we park our car at Colman Dock? What else can we do in Seattle? I would recommend definitely doing both routes. If you had to choose one, Bremerton is a longer ride and Rich Passage is beautiful (even more on a sunny day). Bremerton also has a very nice and open waterfront and downtown. There is many museums within walking distance of the terminal. No need to take a car if you are just visiting Bremerton. I definitely do not recommend taking a car on the Bainbridge ferry during peak hours (check them here). There is usually a 2-3 boat load wait everyday (WSF doesn't even publish waiting times in alert bulletins anymore). Bainbridge island has a less open waterfront than Bremerton but has a vibrant downtown based on the ferry parking ;D. For parking at Seattle: downtownseattle.com/parking/index.html There is no specific ferry parking. Taking the bus is another option even though most buses go on 2nd or 4th. You'd have to find Marion St. and go down to the terminal by foot. There is an overpass above Alaskan Way from 1st to the ferry terminal. Seattle has tons of stuff to do. My favorites are: - Space Needle (beautiful ferry views on the Seattle-Bi, Seattle-Br (and V-F-S with mega zoom) routes with a good zoom on a camera. Note which vessels are #1 and which are #2 before going there because you won't be able to read their names from up there... (I personally use a WSF printed schedule where I put little symbols next to the departure time, one for #1 boat and one for #2 boat and the day I go I note which one is which one)) - Seattle Center in general - Seward Park. Do the "loop". Views of Mt. Rainier on clear days - West Seattle. Where the first whites arrived, views of ferries - Waterfront from Colman Dock to Olympic Sculpture Park. Walk if possible. - Pike Place Market - Fremont Troll if there is young ones with you - Ballard Locks - Discovery Park - Lincoln Park (for F-V-S ferries) - Columbia Tower skyroom IF OPEN

Are you saying I should go Bremerton? Is Bremerton nice? How long do you think I should stay at Bremerton for?

If we were going Bainbridge we would walk-on do you think we would wait one or two sailing? Even on the 10:40 am sailing from Seattle? How about the 5:30 pm sailing from Bainbridge?

You should not have many problems with the two sailing you cited. I went on one and saw the other one last friday and none were full. Wether you should stay at Bainbridge one or two sailings depends on what you wanna do. If you just wanna see the stored ferries at EHVMC just wait one sailing (I even did it once with the 20 minutes I had while the ferry was loading/unloading).

I am saying that if you can only do one ferry ride, go to Bremerton because there is probably more things to do than at Winslow. You can just wait one sailing and do Harborside Fountain Park and the marina. Ir you can wait more sailing and do what I wrote plus visit either the Naval Museum or the warship (I can't remember her name but shes the one next to the marina. Or you can do both. (If I were you I'd wait an odd number of sailings to get on both boats)

Walks ons always get on the next boat and there is always walk on passenger space (or almost? Our experts could tells us that). On rusg hour though nothing guarentees that you'll get a sitting space

I was thinking to catch the 10:00 am on the Kaleetan from Seattle and the Hyak on the 3:00 pm or 5:30 pm from Bremerton.

Not that good for getting pictures of other ferries (unless you're a professional photographer ).

Drive is probably the best option if you wanna do more things than sit at the beach in front of Eagle Harbor Condos. Fay Bainbridge (State Park?) is pretty cool and Fort Ward (St. Pk. ?) as well. Fort Ward has views of the Bremerton ferry.

Lets see... the 10:00 would get you there at 11:00 and you would go at 3:00...4 hours there. Sounds good for downtown. Btw: Don't be too sure about vessel placements, since there will be two supers they might as well switch the Kaleetan to #2 boat.

If you come to Bainbridge definitely bring a car. The town of Winslow is very small and it wouldn't take you long to walk through it. There are many roads on the Island that can get you all over it in a short period of time. Fay Bainbridge Park is a great spot to go to. It's no longer a State park but maintained by the City of Bainbridge Island and has a wonderful beach. I take my dog there a lot. Fort Ward State Park is another good one and like Brasegaliwa it gives you great views of the Bremerton ferry. We have some great trails on the Island that you can walk if the weather is good. If you want to do that I would definitely check out Gazzam Lake Park, the Grand Forest or Port Blakely. We have some good restaurants here too when you get hungry but some can be very spendy. I am happy to share more just let me know.

If you're going to drive to Bainbridge and spend 5 hours there, why limit yourself to just the island? Poulsbo is about 20 minutes away, and its downtown is very charming & picteresque. On Bainbridge, I would normally recommend The Bloedel Reserve, which is kind of a low-key version of Butchart Gardens. It's very beautiful, but it's the wrong time of the year to see gardens. Come back in the spring when everything is blooming.

I might want to go to Bainbridge Island during the summer. What sailings could I catch? But I want to go both vessels on the route. What places should I go to on Bainbridge Island? Should I bring my dog when she has not been on a ferry or a cross the border before?

Should I bring my dog when she has not been on a ferry or a cross the border before? I think that dogs (and pets) are allowed on leash only on the sun deck (car deck?) anyways, Bainbridge has nice beaches for dogs of all kinds. Crossing the border shouldn't be too much of a problem. And you should go on a first ferry and come back on the second.

You definitely can do both in one day, even one afternoon. What I would recommend at Lincoln Park is doing all the waterfront walk. For West Seattle I guess the best views of vigor are at Seacrest Dock (where the water taxi lands). I would recommend, if you don't mind walking to walk (or bike) all of the waterfront of West Seattle Seacrest park to Alki Point. I know its long (in distance) but on a sunny day you'll be at the other end in no time at all. Yes, you can view the Oly's from the Bremerton and Winslow runs. That picture from last Friday that I poster in the original Tokitae thread was taken from the Bremerton run.

What I would recommend at Lincoln Park is doing all the waterfront walk. Are they good paths to follow the waterfront at Lincoln Park? How good a zoom do you need to take pictures of the Vashon terminal?

Are they good paths to follow the waterfront at Lincoln Park? How good a zoom do you need to take pictures of the Vashon terminal? You should try looking at Lincoln Park on Google Earth. Click on people's photos to get an idea of the shore condition. That will give you a pretty clear picture of what it looks like. As far as Vashon Island is concerned, you would need a pretty long zoom lens to get good photos from Lincoln Park. Lincoln Park is so close to the Fauntleroy ferry terminal, it would be super easy to walk to the ferry terminal and walk on. That would be the best way to get pictures of the Vashon Ferry Terminal.

Hello All.
I am wondering, on Saturday, does anyone know what running position the Tillikum will be in? Thanks.
