Thank-you 'Scott' for your complimentary message regarding the positive manner in which our membership carries on the many 'great debates' we generate on all things "ferry" within this forum. Many other 'discussion'/social type platforms have become some of the nastiest places on the planet which have resulted in a decrease in participation by 'members' as well as visitors/guests to some of those forums. We have seen many participants in other forums race to the pits of negativity, which I admit is at times very hard to resist. Responses that should be logical, sensible, and polite can be sorely tested when someone is assailing ones' sacred/passionate viewpoint on a particular subject. Masterful response(s), first of all, require dousing the 'flames of indignation' one might be feeling, whilst stepping back from the fray, and formulating some logical, sensible, polite, maybe even funny responses that hopefully will cause ones' adversary to reconsider their position because you have stated your case so eloquently. It may take an 'adversary' a few minutes to fully understand the position you are espousing as it takes more time to read and understand logic and good grammar, when they may be more familiar with language and modifiers more readily found in other, less respectable forums of discussion. Visitors to this forum-site must often think they have discovered the land of 'nice folks' and they're welcome to think that. What we'd like in return is for many of those visitors to become full members and join us as we go forward in the next decade discussing revolutionary, and exciting concepts that may become reality within the geographical boundaries of our forum. Question: The 'older than Facebook' revelation made you feel:________________?

You are much appreciated. Stop that silly talk 'Low Light'. I've got more dents in my hull than dimples on a gol-darn golf ball, so what ya'all frettin' about lad? Ekes!...come to think about it maybe I should be more worried about some joker leavin' me in the cup after a 'hole in one' or some such craziness. You've got at least one maybe two major refits to enjoy before we'll paint the 'old' word on your hull.

Anyone else run into this? For about three days, I was getting a warning about the Forum being a dangerous site, and I couldn't see it. Don't think it was my anti-virus, because it happened on two computers with different safeguards. Didn't matter if I was using Chrome or Firefox.

Good to see our reputation is finally garnering some attention In all candor, though, I haven't been getting those warnings, so I wonder who else is experiencing this?

Interesting if not a bit troubling postings by 'Neil' and 'Kahloke'. I haven't experienced/received any similar warnings but it behooves all members to always be aware that even a well-moderated site such as ours can become a target for 'unsettling' on-lookers.

IME that sort of warning is common around the interwebs and counts for little-I leave the details to the gifted.

Bad news in this forum's 'family'. I have just read that Karl Adelman has passed away. This from a Facebook post put up this evening by his mother. I have no information beyond that he has passed.
Karl is/was a long time contributor to this forum and I for one will miss him & his contributions here on the WCFF & on FB.
Rest in peace, Karl ...

Oh my... 'Koastal Karl'? He was a kid who grew up on this forum, and he posted fairly recently. I met him a couple of times on excursions, and he was so much quieter than his posts would lead you to believe. Jeez... he was in the prime of life. So sad. Thoughts are with his family and friends...

Thanks for letting us know. This is really sad. If there was an entry for "Ferry Fan" in the dictionary, you'd find a photo of Karl there, in his blue jacket.... He sure loved the ships and being on the water.

He sure loved the ships and being on the water. Very sad. He was account #4 on this forum, one of the first to migrate over from the old BCF Yahoogroup, and was once a moderator. He registered his account 9/16/2003, a lifetime ago in the internet era. He literally has always been part of the WCFF.

This is shocking, and very sad, to say the least. I always enjoyed talking with Karl at various forum outings. As Neil said, he was very quiet in person. My condolences and prayers go out to his family.

This is from almost 17 years ago: Myself and Karl Adelman on board the Queen of the North ferry, on October 1, 2005. This was a repositioning trip between Port Hardy and Tsawwassen, after what would end up being the ship's final summer season. QotN Oct 1 2005 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr

I met Karl a few times over the years & have commented from time to time on his FB postings for his frequent ferry trips. I was one of the people encouraging him to seek employment with BC Ferries. Here's a photo from a group trip on Remembrance Day, 2010, aboard the Queen of Burnaby. Karl is third from the left.

Well it's been a "few weeks" since I've been on here, but it seemed like an appropriate time to come back. I was friends with Karl on Facebook so heard the news on there. I will miss following along on his adventures on the ferries and around BC. He was the epitome of a "ferry fan", going on ferry rides just for the sake of going on ferry rides. I know we've all done it, but he seemed to take it to a special level and never seemed to get tired of it. Like others have mentioned, he was part of this community before this forum existed and was a big contributor and helper from the start. Even though I have kind of drifted away from this forum over the past few years, I feel his loss and hope his family and friends will find peace and comfort at this time.

ObituaryKarl Richard Adelman Karl passed away peaceful with his loving parents and brother by his side on Thursday, September 15, 2022. We are comforted to know that Karl is at peace now with Jesus in Heaven and know we will be together again. Karl was born on December 8, 1981, in Victoria BC. He leaves behind his parents, Kathy and Alan; his brother, David (Megan); and nieces, Kennedy and Kaisey. Karl grew up in Metchosin, BC where he attended school and graduated from Belmont Secondary. He worked many years for Thriftys then to Bumper to Bumper auto parts as a delivery driver. Karl had a great interest in the B.C. Ferry fleet. He was an active member of the 'ferry forum' group and spent every chance he had to go on the ferries. It was his dream, from a young age, to work on the ships, but sadly that wasn't to be. He loved road trips and had many wonderful trips in his lifetime. Karl you are very special and very loved, and you will always be with us in our hearts. The wonderful memories forever will be with us. A gathering in memory of Karl will be announced in the near future. To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Karl, please visit www.chociememorial.com.

Thanks very much, Dane and Northwesterner. I was hoping to be able to read this. (I had been checking the Times Colonist website for the past few days)
