Just a reminder that the return to BC PST tax will impact the amount of dues invoiced to BC WCFF members. Washington members will continue to pay their regular State sales tax on forum dues.
But for BC members, the tax change will impact dues, as follows:
Regular member dues - $100 annually. - under old HST, the total paid was $112. - under BC PST, because forum dues are an exempt service, only the Federal GST will now apply. So the total paid will be $105.
Voyagers will continue to get the discounted dues price of $50, and so the total paid will decrease from $56 to $52.50.
Junior Members (those under age of 17) will continue to pay an extra Moderators Fee of $100 in addition to the regular $100 member dues. So on total dues of $200, Junior Members will now pay $210 instead of the old $224.

My cheque is in the mail but it might be slightly delayed because the Squamish highway washed out in last nights big storm and there were two major slides, one at Porteau and one near Darrell Bay so the Queen of Richmond won't be able to pick up the mail trucks for a bit.

This is a welcomed change to the forum. Anything to keep the costs down at home really helps. However, Ferry fares have gone up today.

What about Junior Voyagers? Base fee of $100, less $50 Voyager discount, plus $100 moderator fee = total fee of $150, plus whatever local sales tax is applicable.

If you ask me, persons under 17 should pay a minimal price given we don't make a lot of money, because we're students. Student fees need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. I see Fluge is abusing his power In other news, ferry fares went up today.

Is this just for Voyager members?
This is for everyone, Cheese. Voyagers get a discount because of all of the money they spend on group trips, especially buffet ones.

A few points to clarify:
1) These fees are only payable by those who choose to renew on April 1st. (to quote Mr. T: "I pity the forum members who choose to renew their dues on this day")
2) We considered charging different fees for those who are word-posters versus those who are photo-posters. Because a picture is worth a thousand words, we were going to determine the average annual words posted by a typical word-poster, and then divide the total by 1,000 to get a comparison to the $1-per-photo that we were going to charge the photo-posters. But the math got too complicated.

April 1st is all about generalizations Meh. It's the same principle that insurance companies use in setting premiums. Different demographics pay different premiums. WCFF engaged an actuary to report to us on what the more moderator-intensive member groups are. As with most actuaries, 80% of the time, they are correct all the time.

80% of the time, they are correct all the time. (video) And I think Flugel forgot to mention that they were considering charging extra for those who post videos on this forum, by charging $0.005 (half a cent) for every second of video. But again, that's too tedious...

Mr. Horn, As an accountant you will obviously know a great deal about doing one's income tax, an appropriate topic for this time of year! How would a parent go about claiming WCFF membership dues paid on behalf of their dependant children? Would you use the 'Children's fitness amount', the 'Tuition, education, and textbook amounts', or the 'Children's arts amount'? I suspect it is the latter. I am not sure if WCFF dues qualify. The Canada Revenue Authority says the following: Your professional advice on this matter would be most useful. Thanks, Fluge
