You mean the 7:30 to Horseshoe Bay?? Cowichan does an extra sailing at 1830 this Sunday. As of Saturday, the Renaissance will be the No. 1 from Departure Bay, so she'll be doing the 1930.

Are you planning on filming some of the crossings with your new camrecorder and tripod? Just wondering.

OK, here is my trip report, finally. I don't have very many photos worth posting of the Columbia, so I am starting off at Tsawwassen. I do have a sped up video of the Columbia departing Bellingham which I will Post on Youtube once I create an account. So, without further ado, here is my report!
I arrived at Tsawwassen a little early, so I wandered around looking for a good place to setup, the SoBC was loading, the New West was firing up, and the Bowen Queen was tied up. Does anybody know why the New West sounded her horn when she powered on, she was not moving or anything, so I'm confused.

I then looked the other way and saw the 'Inspiration coming towards Tsawwassen, no time to power the camera off now!

I then raced back to the car to board the Coastal Inspiration.
 I'm onboard!

I'm hoping that the quality of this picture is OK, I was shooting through the window.
After arriving at Duke Point, I headed off for Campbell River to ride the Powell River Queen.

I love the "old" feeling of the PRQ, definitely one of my favorites!

I then raced across Quadra to board the Tenaka, I got there just in the nick of time! The awesome part of this trip was that I got to drive the Tenaka, it was the highlight of the whole trip!

After dinner, I headed to Comox to ride the Queen of Burnaby.

It was a very quiet sailing from Comox to Powell River, which I liked.

Day two started off at Saltery Bay, watching the Island Sky arrive.

The final BC Ferry terminal for this trip was Langdale, the Coquitlam was tied up in berth 2, waiting to start summer service.
I didn't get many shots of the Queen of Surrey landing at Langdale, but here is one of the ones that I did get.

Instead of riding the Capilano, I finished off the trip by riding the Whatcom Chief.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoyed!

That's cool that you got to pilot the Tenaka! That's my favorite BCF minor vessel. I also liked seeing pictures of her interior, showing that she doesn't--and never will--have that seaweed carpet (aka Coastalized interior).

Looks can be deceiving... her port saddle lounge surprisingly has the Seaweed Carpeting. I guess they didn't have the time to do the rest of her lounges. (To the benefit of us Dogwood fans)

I'm am back home after a 10 day vacation trip. It was a close-to-home trip, with us going only 200km or so away from home, by car.
5 nights at Campbell River. - actually it was Oyster Bay, approx. 20 minute drive south of Campbell River. "Oyster Bay Resort" chalets, across the old highway from the ocean, are highly recommended by me for good quality chalet accommodations and a nice view of the marine traffic entering/leaving the Discovery Passage funnel.
4 nights on Quadra Island. - stayed at our favourite place: Taku Resort, near Heriot Bay. Our cabin had a nice view of Rebecca Spit and the comings and goings of the ferry Tenaka.
Day trips included a day on the Uchuck III ship from Gold River to Friendly Cove and return.
I also drove up to Kelsey Bay one evening to ship-spot the southbound AMHS Columbia ferry.
We also visited Cortes Island for a day.
Plenty of video was shot, and I've now started the process of organizing what I took, and will be posting video compilations and various stills in the forum threads over the next number of weeks.

A brief description of a short & successful ferry-filming trip: On Wednesday afternoon/evening Nov.13 2013, I travelled from home in Nanaimo to Heriot Bay on Quadra Island, and returned. The purpose was specific and simple: to film Tenaka in low light, hopefully in lower-light than the last time I tried this (in early October 2013). There was a sense of urgency for this, because: 1) Tenaka might be finished on that route soon; once Tachek's rebuild is completed. 2) Tenaka might be retired in the next few years (but who knows with BC Ferries) 3) Wednesday was ok weather, with rains starting late that evening. 4) I had the time available, but I won't for the next few weeks. Ok, so I hopped in my car at 1:15pm and drove up to Campbell River. I took the 3:30pm sailing from CR to Quathiaski Cove, and it was the "high school sailing." A bunch of slow-moving twits, who took their time boarding and disembarking. So it was one of the longer boarding & disembarking processes that I've seen. I suspect that is the everyday regular occurrence on high-school sailings on that route. After the horde of twits finally slowly disembarked at Q-Cove, I was able to drive off the ferry and drive up the road to Heriot Bay to my favourite ferry watching place (the Gov't wharf) My filming strategy was to use my Canon camera on my good tripod to film video of Tenaka. - I'd also use my wife's Fujifilm camera to shoot stills, using my old bad tripod as a wobbly base. This worked well, as I got uninterrupted video and some good stills. Here are a few shots of my setup that evening: I left the Heriot Bay float at 5:30pm and was at Q-Cove in time for the 5:50pm sailing back to Campbell River. - then a drive home in the dark on Hwy-19, including a swerve to miss a deer walking across the highway (no contact made, and I was happy that I wasn't speeding - I had time to react and avoid.) A fun day. ...and my video was posted by 7:00am the next day ! How's that for member service?
