On this day in 2003, Scott started this forum. While the first year was quite slow, over the years this community has become the top place for discussion of all ferry related matters on the West Coast of this continent. This website would not be the place it is now if it wasn't for all of the members who have contributed their views and expertise and photos to the incidents, new-builds and other ferry related events and situations that we have seen over the last decade on both sides of the border. On behalf of all of the staff, I'd like to say a big thank you for a decade of good discussion and many great photo contributions. Cheers!

I second what Coastal Skier said: Thanks everybody who makes this forum a part of their routine. Your reading and participation is much appreciated. And thanks to John H. for getting it started, 10 years ago today. Lots has changed in his life in those past 10 years (fatherhood can do that, haha). As a tribute to John's work, take a moment to read some of his ship profiles, accessed by the "Westcoastferries.ca" button, on the left side of the menu choices, just below the photo banner. John showed us all how good research can be done and how it can be presented. His work is a consistent high quality, where sources are cited, items are not plagerized, and the layout is logical and clear. John started this whole forum by starting with those basic ship profiles, and then adding a discussion forum. Read and enjoy his work.

I have read them and he has done a good job with presenting the info about BCF's. Although he doesn't have the time to update the website anymore, I appreciate that he did take the time to make it, and provide good info about BC Ferries, just as EGfleet has done with WSF's ferries at www.evergreenfleet.com.

Yes, the website was a piece of work that I had lots of plans for, but ran out of time to complete them. When I started (probably over 15 years ago), there was not a lot of information on the Internet about ferries (or anything else compared to today). Unfortunately (for the website), I just don't have time to update it anymore, so take it for what it is - a semi-historical snapshot of the ferry fleet! I can hardly believe this forum is 10 years old. A few of you may remember the Yahoo BC Ferry "group" this sort of grew out of, and now it's become quite a community thanks mostly to the moderators: Scott and Mike (Flugel) and Jordan and Brandon and LB (SS San Mateo)and the younger Mike (MileagePhoto) that have come on board to take more of a leadership role in the success of this forum and how it operates. Other long-time members have greatly contributed as well and this place really is what it is thanks to you guys. Circumstances in life have limited the time I've been able to spend on here the last few years so I can't take much credit other than helping give the ball the first kick 10 years ago today Time flies! - John H

A few days late a submitting a post to celebrate our 10th anniversary.
No kidding how quickly time flies. I remember when I first discovered this place almost 9 and a half years ago, but was hesitant for a number of months to sign up as a registered member. Internet for me was quite a novelty at the time, and wasn't something I really had full access to. I was just 15 years old at the time, and now I'm about to turn a quarter of a century next month. A lot has changed over the years, including the name of this group, however it's great to see what this forum has become. I can't say that 9 years ago I ever expected there to be WCF Swag available for members to purchase, and that there'd be group meet and greets aboard the Ferries. It's quite the community we have here these days, and it couldn't have been accomplished without everyone who has continued to dedicate themselves to this hobby. I can say though that this forum has influenced me for helping me solidify a career path in the marine industry with a dream to one day become a Captain.
Here's to many more years here at WCF, and whatever it is that the future has in store for us here.
