For the October flagship the photo will be of a ferry that is either loading or unloading. The ferry must be at least partially visible in the photo and the photo can be taken from either on land or onboard.
The usual rules apply. The nomination process will end on September 29 at 20:30 (8:30 PM).
Rule clarification (added 09/08): The loading/unloading process must be visible in the picture.

I know we did "In The Berth" a little earlier this year (late last year?), but I don't think we've done one as it pertains to actual loading/unloading. You're right though, they are very similar.

I did look through the older threads and did see one for August 2012 pertaining to loading (but not unloading).

Does that exclude any photos taken from the ship? i.e. would something similar to this be eligible: MV Puyallup - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr

Boy did I miss the boat last month. Had two good ones but was too late. Here is my first submission - the Queen of Capilano from a video capture on a shoot I did. Large image here.

Generic shots of ferries loading or unloading are pretty much the same as a shot of the vessel in active pass. This shows the actual operation in action.

You're right though, they are very similar. I did one in May of 2012 called "All Aboard" which is exactly the same as this theme. ferriesbc.proboards.com/thread/8422/2012-all-aboardIt's OK if we want to do it again. We do have some newer members which did not get to do that one, although it does seem a little soon to be repeating this particular theme.

Will photos that were entered in the May 2012 'contest' that were not among the six selected to appear in the rotating header that month be eligible this time around? Or should it be 'new' photos only?

That nomination, unfortunately, cannot be accepted. Although the ferries are at the dock it is not clear if they are loading or unloading.

The Surrey is unloading as there are people walking down the gangway and tail lights are visible. On the Renaissance, the cars on the top car deck are facing seaward.

That is a nice photo and I believe that it could work for this 'contest'. However, I think you need to crop it (if possible) such that the two vessels appear significantly larger in the finished photo. That way it will be more obvious that each vessel is being loaded or unloaded (and therefore fully meeting the criteria for this month).

To clarify my fellow moderator, the idea of the flagship theme is to document the process and operation of loading/unloading. Because that process is not obvious in your submission, it can't be accepted. If you can modify this image to better document the process, or make another submission, that would be preferred. As a suggestion, photos taken from within the terminal or on the ship are better perspectives.

Don't think cropping it any more would do this shot any justice.

Hello Elwha-O-T-Rocks: Can you correct the list on the last photo? Your software probably has a straightener function, and it would improve this photo (overly slanted photos are ineligible as flagship winners)

One more bit of feedback: - I usually try to avoid close-up of people's faces in my forum postings, especially for a flagship. Maybe it's just me, but I've always thought it is an invasion of people's privacy to display this kind of photograph (just look at the expression of the lady in the middle of the photo). And I've noticed that it's usually the younger members who maybe aren't yet aware of privacy courtesies when doing these types of photos. - ie. I'm not talking about a legal right to privacy, but a common-courtesy respect of someone's privacy. I'm curious what other people think of this issue, especially for a forum flagship. - If this one were a winner, I'd cringe every time that I looked at it. (sorry, no offense intended to Mr. Elwha: but he's given us a good example to discuss).
