So I've come over other submissions I could use, but I'm not sure if those would qualify, so I am asking right now. What about this specif pic of the Walla Walla? MV Walla Walla - Washington State Ferries by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr And for more remote ferries, I am thinking about the Charlie Wells, I'm thinking about a picture similar to this, but taken a little bit earlier so that the only land you see is the island. MV Charlie Wells by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Thanks for your help in patience for this theme. I hope that some members read the guidelines right and send you some cat videos for relief.

Is Grosse Pass close to Gosse Pass by any chance? Haha. Not to be a complete pain though and to offer a legit suggestion, however I'm sure someone is bound to challenge you on it anyways, but Colbourne Pass which Swartz Bay is in the middle of may come up in addition to Gosse Pass. Ie: the route that the Spirits tend to normally enter and exit through, via Fircone Pt (East Entrance), or via Arbutus Island (West Exit). Colbourne Pass spans from Coal Island (Fircone Point) all the way to the northern most tip of Saanich Peninsula. Gosse Pass is strictly the gap between Piers and Knapp Islands. Long Harbour might also come up as a possibility? I meant to add the three passages of transit around Swartz Bay. Thanks! LH is also a good suggestion. The only thing I ask for areas where there are terminals, is that the ferry is shown while underway, and not in the berth. SolDuc Both approved (but hesitant about the Charlie Wells photo). I guess the size of the ship, relative to the distance to land, alters the perception of the 'narrowness' a little bit.
Please send me kitty therapy videos.

Long Harbour might also come up as a possibility? I believe that Long Harbour would be ideal & would certainly meet the spirit of the November 2013 flagship theme.

So since there is no stupid questions I will ask whether the photo below would meet criteria or not. As compared to the earlier nomination the pass is somewhat more visible (and it's clear that the Kitsap is entering it) and the ferry is more put in evidence. Up to you, Mr. Photo. EDIT: Nevermind, not eligible.

I look at this photo and I see a theme of "Ferry with Big Mountain." That's the emphasis of this photo. - This month's theme means that your photo needs to emphasize a ferry in a narrow passage (not in a volcano's shadow). It's a great banner, just not for this month's theme.

My advice to everyone trying to find photos for this theme: - find an obvious choice from your photo-library, not an obscure sort-of-matching-the-criteria choice.
Make it simple and obvious that the ship is in a narrow passage. Don't try to work in an edge of a narrow passage into the edge of your photo.
Make it obvious.

Finding actual good photos for this is extremely hard, and I'll be lucky if I can only get one submission in. Unfortunately every time I've been in a spot like that either I had horrible lightning or my camera/lens setting were totally off, which would've yeilded excellent photos only if I had set it right. But now that colder weather is upon us I'm somewhat getting rid of heat waves, which is an excellent thing. EDIT: No, it's not a great banner. I've got far better ones of this ferry in front of Mt Rainier. I guess this was just my "try to fit it in" moment.

And yet you guys are consistent "winners" in these contests, so an off-month every once in a while should be ok. You don't have to do 3 nominations every month. Sometimes the criteria really does narrow the choices (pun intended) and that's ok in balance with those other super-easy months. Just keep having fun taking great photos.

Just keep having fun taking great photos. Yeah, and everyone else too. Taking pictures is fun. I recently checked out a book called Take Your Best Shot (by Miriam Leuchter) at the library and I must say that with it I dicovered many techniques that I didn't know about and would recommend you to check it out. I'm really eager to see what I get as results on my next ferry trip.

Thank you, everyone, for working with Flugel and I on encapsulating the theme of this flagship. I've decided to edit my list to be suggestions, rather than required locations - but we still reserve the right to decline entries on the basis of not incorporating the theme. I would also like to mention that I've asked my fellow staff to assist on my behalf if an issue arises with this flagship, and I am not around to address it. This is due to circumstances in my life outside the forum. Please respect their decisions. A lot of great entries so far, and we're only on Day 2. Keep them coming! Cheers everyone

I think the onus should be on the one who is submitting their nomination, to find a photo that is consistent with the parameters of the theme. Your guidelines are pretty clearly spelled out. I wouldn't spend too much time revising them or adding new places to your list. You've told us what you are looking for. It's up to us to meet that requirement. However, if you want to revise the San Juan Islands section, I would say that the following locations are suitable for meeting the narrow channel criteria: Thatcher Pass (between Blakely and Decatur) Peavine Pass (between Blakely and Orcas - this one is rarely used, so if anyone were to get a photo of a ferry in there, that would be a gem) Harney Channel (between Shaw and Orcas) Upright Channel (between Lopez and Shaw) Wasp Passage (between Orcas/Crane and Shaw) Peavine gets used moderately regularly. Bonus points for Obstruction Pass, though.

I agree, that is one heck of a great Coho shot! I love how it looks wide angle, and especially how close she is to the shore!
