I think the onus should be on the one who is submitting their nomination, to find a photo that is consistent with the parameters of the theme. Your guidelines are pretty clearly spelled out. I wouldn't spend too much time revising them or adding new places to your list. You've told us what you are looking for. It's up to us to meet that requirement. However, if you want to revise the San Juan Islands section, I would say that the following locations are suitable for meeting the narrow channel criteria: Thatcher Pass (between Blakely and Decatur) Peavine Pass (between Blakely and Orcas - this one is rarely used, so if anyone were to get a photo of a ferry in there, that would be a gem) Harney Channel (between Shaw and Orcas) Upright Channel (between Lopez and Shaw) Wasp Passage (between Orcas/Crane and Shaw) Peavine gets used moderately regularly. Bonus points for Obstruction Pass, though. Now that I've finally visited this area, this post makes more sense to me. Regarding Peavine Pass, what circumstances would have a WSF ship use this pass? - An obstruction in Thatcher Pass, such as a slow moving log-boom tow? - High winds in a certain direction, making it better to cross Rosario Strait diagonally to/from Anacortes? - Sense of adventure?

All of the above. The last time I went through Peavine on a ferry, it was because of high winds, and they actually went up and around the north end of Cypress Island, coming down the channel between Cypress and Guemes to get to Anacortes.

Usually when I'm driving (mates traditionally navigate the eastbound transit), if weather has made me turn tail and run for Peavine Pass, I'm going around the north side of Cypress and down Bellingham Channel ('twixt Cypress and Guemes) too. Those boats are not spring chickens, and beating (verb chosen with great care) my way down Rosario Strait from Peavine isn't my idea of fun. But advantageous tides, log tows or general congestion in Thatcher are all valid reasons to head for Peavine. Or maybe just a familiarization trip for when the weather gets foul. Of course, you're rolling the dice that Peavine isn't full-up like Thatcher is, too...
