Two photos of Translink's recently delivered 2018 NovaBus LFS HEV buses. These are the first Nova buses delivered in the full Translink colours. Mike- this is not really a very important point, but I'm curious... Why might these buses have been given such huge numbers, as in 18310? They don't have 18,000 buses. I think the number is something like one tenth of that.

I think the number is something like one tenth of that. I'm not sure exactly why, but starting with buses delivered in 2012, the first two digits of the bus number relate to the year the bus was ordered. I.e. 12001 is a bus from 2012, 15001 is a bus from 2015, etc.

Accident today on I-90 near Snoqualmie Ridge / SR-18 exit involving what looks to be a new TransLink bus being delivered to Vancouver from Minnesota according to the article. Apparently the bus rear-ended a disabled vehicle in the right lane, killing the passenger car's driver in the process. It's very sad, and my condolences to the victim's family, but I am posting it here because it involves TransLink and it's a bit out of the ordinary. It's not every day (thankfully) a brand new bus gets into a major accident before it even has a chance to carry passengers. Here's the article: A link to the article with some pics, including the crumpled front of the "what used to be new" bus www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/transportation/fatal-crash-involving-bus-and-car-on-i-90-near-north-bend/

Today, Translink began a two year trial of battery electric buses on the 100, which runs between Marpole Loop and 22nd Street Station. They are testing two NovaBus LFSes and two New Flyer XE40s. One of the NovaBuses, H19302 is seen at Marpole Loop posing with the charging station on one of the first runs. CMBC 19302 - Marpole Loop by Michael, on Flickr

Double-decker buses are awesome. Down here in Seattle, Community Transit uses them on routes from south Snohomish County and Everett to downtown Seattle. I really like them. They have a smaller footprint, but have more forward-facing seats on the upper level and really just have more seats in general. And they have a big window at the front, giving you a great view of what's in front of you.

Here is one of the new double-decker buses on the 620, rounding the loop at Ladner Exchange. November 5, 2019. Note how the rear tag axle counter-steers to allow the bus to make tighter turns. CMBC 19402 - Ladner Exchange by Michael, on Flickr

If anyone spots our Premier in a tavern in the next little while, perhaps an offering of a double scotch & 2rocks would bring a smile to his face as he must certainly dread what a full-blown transit strike will mean to his many constituents and having to at some point intercede?

Interestingly the Translink store seems to sell a skytrain ornament that has the blue roofline. Of course, it is yet to be determined whether that will translate into the livery being applied to Skytrain and SeaBus in reality Attachments:
