Over the past few days I've been braving the frigid cold and exploring Calgary transit. I'll post a few snippets here to start, and some more later when I have time. On my New Mexico/Arizona trip a few weeks ago I had the chance to explore Tucson's transit system a bit. They have a regular bus transit system with only two bus models: Gillig Advantages (low-floors) as well as Nova RTS. Here's a Gillig Advantage with a, ummm, strange load up front: SunTran Gillig Advantage #3131 by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Here's a Nova RTS in Downtown Tucson: SunTran Nova Bus RTS-WFD #2023 by SolDuc Photography, on Flickr Tucson will shortly boost a modern streetcar system once it is fully tested and all the vehicles have arrived. So far they're testing the first few cars. Those were made in the USA and are very similar to Portland's newest ones, except they have a more powerful AC. A quick shot the other day here in Calgary - it's always interesting to see the juxtaposition of these Cold War-era trains coming into a brand new 2010s station:

A Nova-something bus on Banff Avenue - September 12, 2014 That would be a Nova LFS HEV (hybrid). The entire Banff transit fleet is wrapped with scenes from the national park
It's not everyday that you can ride buses from the 60's running in a regular shuttle service, and it's even more rare to find those buses is such beautiful condition. Red Arrow (a division of Pacific Western Transportation, who also runs the Prince George transit service) has a fleet of vintage transit buses running for Spruce Meadows. The fleet only goes out a few times during the year, to run free shuttle service from the CTrain and parking lots, to the event grounds.
One of their oldest buses in the fleet, a 1967 GM "Fishbowl" originally from Calgary Transit

An old friend of mine, a 1990 MCI Classic from Victoria (they have two of these in the fleet)

An oddball up north, an ex. Santa Monica MCI Classic which most recently ran in Fort McMurray

Finally, a group shot with all three types together

Now that I am attending the 'big' university in Manitoba (the University of Manitoba), I am taking transit 4 days a week because I was too late getting a parking pass. I have actually been enjoying it quite a bit, as I do not have any road 'frustration' when I'm on the bus, as things are out of my control! Anyways, most of the buses in Winnipeg's fleet are pretty standard New Flyer's, but there are a handful of these buses, which have caught my attention a few times (especially the retro tail lights!) Does anybody know anything about this bus?

That's a New Flyer Invero. Not many transit agencies got them from what I've seen/read and it was produced from 2001 to 2007.

Halifax Transit has many different livery buses which depends on the routes and price you pay. I am posting these pictures to the Halifax Transit fleet and livery. Some photos of Toronto Transit Commission, Government of Ontario Transit and York Region Transit. Toronto Transit Commission has order 204 Bombardier Flexity Outlook, which has caused major problems for TTC such as late deliveries and production problem. Bombardier Flexity Outlook are designed to operated with pantagraph in future along the whole streetcar but are currently limited to 509 and 510, which gives them full power. On rest of streetcar system operates on trolley pole which will be gradually phrased out by 2020. I am posting these photos because we do not have that many photos of them. 4471 by Blue Bus Fan, on Flickr 4415 by Blue Bus Fan, on Flickr 4480 by Blue Bus Fan, on Flickr 4464 by Blue Bus Fan, on Flickr Government of Ontario Transit is in charge of region bus and train service in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. Does anyone think the Metro Vancouver's 'Sky-train' system would have been a better option for Calgary? Is their 'LRT' system doing the job effectively? It would appear that the Light Rail system planned for Surrey and vicinity is now in doubt as a result of last week-ends civic elections. Many folks are surmising that the switch to 'Sky-train' from 'LRT' could set the whole project back 10 years? Just as an aside: Having lived through elections at all government levels for quite some time now, , it continues to astound me that the voter turn-out is so abysmally low! The grass-roots is where the real action is that affects each and everyone's daily lives in our cities and towns and yet so many choose to NOT to participate! "Don't vote: Don't b-tch"!

Not sure how you mean "generation", but you've captured all four major variants still in use - the 1980s U2 (numbered in the 2000s), the 1990s Series 5/6/7 (nearly identical to the user and spotter; numbered in the 2200s), the 2000s Series 8 (numbered 2300s), and the latest ongoing Series 9 (numbered 2400s). 2101 and 2102 were reserved for a pair of unique U2 with AC electrics (versus DC for the regulars), only one of which remains and is used on its own as a maintenance and support vehicle. As for whether SkyTrain would be better, certainly the relatives of the pedestrians who were killed this past seven days in three separate level crossing incidents would agree. Originally, Calgary wanted to place the downtown portion (by far the slowest and most prone to collisions) underground and there's even a stop dug out under City Hall for it, but there wasn't enough money. The new Green Line that's going to be built plans to learn from this mistake and place the downtown portion underground. Once out of downtown, however, the existing lines go fairly quick, especially in the northwest where it travels along the centre median of a major highway.

One of the great strengths of this forum is the diversity and depths of knowledge that our members keep demonstrating time and again. Thanks for the input 'LLM', now maybe we'd better get back to discussing ferry boats etc.
