The Refit Relief Queen's next assignment is on route 5, replacing the Cumberland. It's known that there has been several overloads with the Bowen Queen filling in, so this time around the company is offering a certain number of parking spots to the Islanders, free of charge. www.bcferries.com/bcfservicenotice?id=837604

The Celebration is 100 mins behind due to a medical emergency! It looks like she will be at Tsawwassen with the Rennie if there is room!

I do not understand why they would tell people about the Coastal Inspiration doing an extra round trip in the service notice and not a new one for route 30.

Tenaka & Tachek news:
Expect to see Tachek at Texada Island for training, and then to relieve the North Island Princess on that route.

Sailings to Galiano have been cancelled the past few days due to wind. Must be a pian if you lived on that island. They should of kept Montague Harbour terminal in operation then they wouldent have this problem with Sturdies Bay, lol!

Just a Reminder: Little River Terminal Reopens Tomorrow so the Alternate Route 17b Service Between Departure Bay and Saltery Bay will conclude. In it's place, Route 17a will commence between Little River and Saltery Bay. (With a stop at Blubber Bay)

BC Ferries clearly erred on the side of caution today in holding the Island Sky at Little River and cancelling her runs as of 2pm. Likewise, the North Island Princess did not do the evening round trip from Blubber Bay. In tracking the day's weather, I haven't seen anything worse than 32 knots at Comox, and a brief period at 40, at Powell River. Obviously they were going by the forecast, and not wanting the vessel to get caught in what was expected... but the storm has not turned out to be as severe as Environment Canada thought, and we've been told by BC Ferries how great the Island Sky's sea keeping is in rough weather.
Oh well. No test in rough weather, so no one woofed their Michelina's meatball dinner.

I did a round trip on the Renaissance tonight for something to do, lol! The 5pm Swartz Bay and 7pm Tsawwassen. It was a bit choppy crossing the strait. They told everyone to stay seated arriving at Tsawwassen and they locked down the elevators too just to be safe. I honestly dident think it was that windy though. They even had deck 7 closed off. Coming back through the islands the wind picked up and it was a bit more choppy than going over. Arriving at Swartz Bay I was in the Sitka Coffee Place when I saw a flash by the tower then the whole terminal went dark. A few seconds later the lights started coming on again. I was at Tsawwassen once years ago when the power went out but it was alot more windy than it was tonight!

It's been quite a mess out there tonight.
Summary of issues:

Coastal Celebration: Delayed in-dock about 90 minutes due to weather. Queen of Nanaimo: Canceled last round trip due to weather delays. Queen of Cowichan: Canceled last round trip due to severe weather. Queen of Oak Bay: Delayed about 90 minutes due to mechanical issues. Island Sky: Canceled final two round trips due to severe weather. Will stop at Blubber Bay tomorrow morning. Kahloke: Canceled final half of service day due to severe weather. Tenaka: Canceled final half of service day due to severe weather. Powell River Queen: Canceled final half of service day due to severe weather. North Island Princess: Canceled last two round trips due to severe weather. Northern Adventure: Tonight's Route 11 departure was delayed about 3.5 hours due to weather. She will play catch-up to regular schedule tomorrow through to Wednesday.

I was surprised that the Kahloke was running as long as she did- I noticed traffic off the 2:40 sailing from Denman, which might have been the last sailing. According to Environment Canada, winds were gusting about 70k at Comox at that time... must have been a wild ride. Gee, who knew the k-barges were that tough?

The lights coming back on were the backup generator kicking in to supply the ramps and stuff.

www.bcferries.com/bcfservicenotice?id=839123Apparently the Queen of Oak Bay has cancelled a round trip due to a "medical emergency involving police". This seems rather ominous. My guess is that shots may have been fired on board. Can anyone confirm this?

I did a quick search on Google and found this. No shots where fired rather they found a man dead on the upper vehicle deck. CTV Vancouver Published Thursday, February 20, 2014 10:37AM PST Last Updated Thursday, February 20, 2014 11:15AM PST Officials are investigating the sudden death of a middle-age man aboard a BC Ferry early Thursday morning. The man was found slumped over seated on an upper vehicle deck of the ferry, which was heading from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo just after 7 a.m. He wasn’t associated with a vehicle, according to police. The ferry returned to Horseshoe Bay and first responders removed the man’s body from the vessel. Const. Jeff Palmer said there appears to be “nothing at all suspicious” about the incident and the BC Coroners Service is now investigating the man’s cause of death. Several trips were canceled in the aftermath including the 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Queen of Oak Bay ferry sailings to Nanaimo. Travellers are asked to check BC Ferries’ website for updates regarding ferry service between Horseshoe Bay and Nanaimo.
