Good bit of research once again FerryNutSeattle. With two huge events coming their way, the added transportation assets will be well used. It will be interesting to see what the Brazilians do with these vessels after the FIFA World Cup and Olympics are over? I had a look at one of your additional story sources you listed: 'Ferryvolution' and got totally swept up in a most interesting website Some of the companies and information I have seen on other 'sites' but this website lists many companies, world-wide and with a click on a company of interest, up pops a ton of great stuff. ( And just on a day when I have a list of chores to get done around my living space.

How fast can they build and deliver these things? The news report is from late 2013 and the World Cup starts in a couple months. The last link shows a picture of the keel-laying ceremony at the end of February.
Interesting that it seems like they're going with double car decks.

One report says there would be about a thousand seats aboard these new ferries, which have about the same length as our departed Steel Electrics and the current KDT ferries we see today at Keystone and Tacoma. The ends may be where passengers embark/disembark as we see below in these Google Earth views: Niterio (or Niteroi) dock showing passenger activity. Rio dock. This is most likely the ferry route. It's interesting to note that this route parallels a bridge. I guess that passenger ferries may be better than a subway tube at some places.

One of the newer Rio Harbour ferries ... NOT double-ended! -------------- Interesting that they changed the design from the double-ended version shown at the top of this thread. I thought that might have been the Rio Atlantic Breeze. Thanks for reporting from your trip. Remember to file an expense claim when you return.

Pictures of passenger vessels of all descriptions posted by our Forum members as they venture abroad, always offer the opportunity to compare, "what's out there", to passenger vessels we use here on the West Coast of North America. Always interesting to see if there are any vessel types that might be useful in our back yard ....or not. As a bit of an aside, what's your general opinion of how Rio has prepared and managed the events of Rio 2016 in light of the rather negative news coverage we've seen and heard? Congratulations to all our competitors, medalists or not, as we as a country should be very proud of the manner in which our Canadian contingency has performed on and off their particular event venues!

The media in Canada & the USA (Europe maybe, too) ought to be ashamed of their blatantly negative portrayal of Rio & Brazil in general. Brazil has had issues for sure, but on the whole has done well. We need to remember that Brazil does not have the resources on a per capita basis that we enjoy in the so-called 'first world'. We should also remember Canada's summer games of 1976 (Montreal) with an unfinished stadium & a pregnant mayor ...
