My wife and I went to my mother-in-law's 70th Birthday at the Majestic Inn and Spa yesterday, which to my surprise was a couple blocks from Dakota Creek. The Tokitae loomed over the downtown core of Anacortes on the drydock there, and I took a quick look at the Tokitae's immense hulk out of water. I can now say I've seen a drydocked ferry. In person. With my own eyes. And what an immense and incredible sight it was. (we also were first batch of cars turned away at the dock, when the Coupeville-to-Port Townsend crossing was shut down in yesterday's windstorm) M.V. Tokitae in drydock by Steven Rosenow, on Flickr

Found the Tokitae sitting in Friday Harbor. Not sure what she was doing up in the Islands, subbing for Samish maybe?

Though if I could manage a slow fade-in like that every time on every boat, I'd do it as a trademark.

With Tokitae being up in the islands, away from her usual route, I was able to get some pics on Sunday, and rode on the ship Saturday from Anacortes to Orcas. Here's Tokitae in the San Juans: passing along Blakely Island en-route to Lopez threading the narrow channel between Willow and Blakely Islands

The whistles aren't tunable. That's an air supply problem, or possibly a solenoid issue (I'm betting the latter). The electric solenoids don't really care for being in the weather. The Samish has the same problem with the #2 end whistle, because it gets the most rain and wind due to the direction the route lies.
