Does anyone know when the new ferry should be in service?

There's a page for a time lapse video of the construction leading up to launch date, which I cannot get to link properly in my post, here: waterbridgesteel.com/newferry.htmlI think they could have used a bit better camera angle, and more frequent captures to smooth out the visual interpretation. The news release appears here. New inland ferry makes a splashand the official launch video and photos, here. Judging from the video, though, there was a decided lack of splash in the launching. According to the Revelstoke Times Review, this was because BCHydro had lowered the lake level before the launch, and the hull wasn't even able to float free on its own let alone make a splash. The news writer things this might be a herald of an interesting life for the future ferry. Launch So with a Vessel in service date of May 2014, when do we plan a farewell trip to the MV Shelter Bay and DEV Galena?

So with a Vessel in service date of May 2014, when do we plan a farewell trip to the MV Shelter Bay and DEV Galena? Go ahead and plan it and do it please. It doesn't need to be a "When do we..." type of thing. Just do it, and get it done yourself. Seize the MV & DEV opportunity. If you need any answers to your planning questions, feel free to ask. I was just there on Tuesday.

re the Arrows Lake new-build:
From my chatting with the crews on the Galena-Shelter run last week, I learned that the new ship will sit higher in the water re the docking ends of the ship, and this means that the docks at both landings will need to be modified.
What this also means is that the route won't be easily interchangeable for using either of the existing vessels to supplement service. - ok, so that shouldn't be an issue because the new 80 car ferry is quite larger than the DEV Galena.
But it will add a wrinkle for any time when an old ship needs to be used in relief, especially during the new ship's break-in period.

Nakusp shipyard seen by me on September 10, 2013. - I was allowed limited access, for a few minutes. So I couldn't get too close, and there wasn't an opportunity for me to ask questions. - that's ok, they're a busy worksite. I was happy for the few minutes that I was allowed. The view, and the hull which might be the ferry or it might just be a construction barge. I've looked at this long enough, and I can't tell. - my angle and the zoom distorts the length of the hull To compare what I saw, with what the WaterBridge website shows, see the bottom photo HERE=================== The component assembley shed: ---------------- 3 of the 4 props

So this vessel will be moved through the water by two diagonally opposed 'RAD' type props similar to the arrangement on the cross-channel ferry in Haida Gwaii (the Kwuna). I believe that that arrangement is common in smaller 'barge'-type ferries. When do they expect this new Arrow Lakes vessel to enter service, and have they chosen a name for it?
Edit: I read above that the vessel is forecast to be in-service in May. Are they on schedule?

As for a name, that is yet to be determined although im asuming they will swap the name from the current vessel and apply it to the new one.

You are correct sir that is the ferry deck without its superstructure. Except now everything has been installed including the bridge. Minor details are left like wiring and pipes etc. Ive been considering some training as a deckhand and maybe work on it one day

The new ferry will be delayed until june. According to arrow lakes news, "a key participant in the sea trials is unable to attend due to medical reasons and the company was not able to immediately assign a replacement."
The two existing ferries "DEV Galena and MV shelter bay" will operate on the may long weekend The vessel is scheduled to be completed on the expected date, but the sea trials are delayed until june. So we will not recieve our new ferry until later.. Which is a huge disappointment to me, and the people in my area

Actually this ferry wont have right angle drive thrusters, it will have 2 co-axial drive variable pitch voith schneider propellers, which can redirect thrust in any direction with a simple push of a stick. The older ferries both have two sticks that move left and right as well as two propeller rotation speed levers and two forward/reverse thrust pitch levers. There is actually a video on youtube that shows someone operating the galena bay, the captain explains what the controls are

Just yesterday as i was driving i spotted the ferry heading up the lake to galena bay, and it looked like it had pieces of equipment, and a semi with the new docking ramps on its trailer. Im assuming it will be in service by this weekend or soon after. Finally. Waterbridge neglected to post new photos of it on their site giving detail of its progress, so good luck getting photos of it in is current state. But i can confirm it works, it had a big load of trucks and equipment on board, and its quite fast. And its huge. Twice the length of the current ferry and much wider. The only thing i dont quite like about it is the placement of the bridge off to one side. Im used to the catwalk style with the bridge centered over the deck, however taller loads can be carried now because quite frequently, trucks have struck the old ferry bridge overhang. Come check it out sometime, but i would just wait a few weeks until they get everything straightened out. Im guessing there will be glitches theyll need to fix and the new ferry may be down frequently for small fixes until its broken in

The new ferry has a name, the Columbia.
This is not to be confused with the AMHS vessel of the same name.
WCK, Nakusp.

Perfect name for an object void of any recognizable form. Just like a river.

I'm surprised at the lack of updates being made available about this. Last one was quite a few months ago.
