I am trying to research this as it seems no one can remember this ferry. I apologize if this thread is in the wrong spot...
All through the 1980's till about 1994 there was an old ferry moored in the Fraser River near the area known as Tilbury in Delta. It was clearly visible from River Road and could be seen when ever anyone drove this route. It was roughly east of the Tilbury Cement Plant but west of the Alex Fraser Bridge. It was an older ferry and I believe it may have been wood as well? I remember seeing it for years when traveling to Ladner from North Delta.
In around 1994 it began to sink. I believe the Vancouver Sun even had a photo of it sinking. Then it just disappeared. I can't recall if they towed it away or let it sink. It was not accessible from land as it was moored out about a 100 feet off shore.
Does anyone have some photos or info about this old boat. I keep talking about it and everyone seems to think I'm nuts!! It was a large boat too with at least a one level car deck.
Thanks all.

Check out our thread on Bainbridge and see if it looks like the ship you are thinking of: ferriesbc.proboards.com/thread/8547/bainbridge-smokwa-photos-discussion

If the vessel you saw was there until 1994, it wouldn't have been the Bainbridge.

I suspect that the vessel in question was the Bainbridge/Jervis Queen, and that the 1990's dates are mistaken. There is a possibility though that you have seen another vessel. We do know that the MV Quillayute/Samson IV was on the lower river, as was/is the old Salt Spring Queen. The Queen of the Islands is another possibility as it was winter moored along the lower Fraser for several years during the time that it was the St. John's fishing lodge. That vessel did not sink, however. It is still very much alive, okay and resting on the North Vancouver waterfront.

What about the Motor Princess / Pender Queen / Pender Lady? Wasn't she moored on the Fraser for a while before sinking?

It was the MV Sechelt Queen (Chinook 1 & 2). I grew up on Collings Way, just above where it was docked.

The Sechelt Queen was moored on the dock that was fed from Alaska Way along the Fraser River. I used to hang out with my friends along the river bank and marvel at this ferry docked in front of us.
I later discovered it was the MV Sechelt Queen. She was last seen in Mobile, Alabama where she has been listed as, 'disposed.'
There is a short film clip on YouTube of her titled, 'Sechelt Queen 1970.'

'canucks24', if you go back through the thread, you'll see that the vessel in question was identified as the ex- Jervis Queen, previously named Bainbridge. The location wasn't the one you're referring to. The vessel you saw further up the river was the Sunshine Coast Queen. This is a shot I took of her at the spot you mention.
