I'm curious to see what's going to happen this weekend. If there could be no borders between these two countries and the ferry systems, I think WSF could send the TOKITAE or SAMISH up to Langdale to help out. If I'm not mistaking, the Olympic Class has the highest life raft capacity of all ferries in the WSF fleet. Enough to save a full load of their licensed 1500 passenger capacity. Because of their open ends, however, I would believe they would be limited to Howe Sound, Jervis Inlet, and the Gulf Islands. Just my wishful thinking. Good luck, Sunshine Coast travelers.

The above service notice that I posted has been extended to Thursday. The Coquitlam is the only vessel on route 3 today.

MV Queen of Capilano – Unplanned Maintenance Horseshoe Bay – Snug Cove Sunday, August 23, 2015 On Saturday, August 22 after completion of the last scheduled sailing from Snug Cove, Bowen Island, the MV Queen of Capilano will be removed from service to undergo necessary unplanned maintenance on the propulsion system. This work is expected to take approximately 6 hours.
On Sunday, August 23 the MV Bowen Queen will operate as the replacement vessel for sailings between Horseshoe Bay and Snug Cove as follows: Leave Horseshoe Bay (West Vancouver) 6:00am
Leave Snug Cove (Bowen Island) 6:30 am
Commercial customers are advised the available vehicle capacity is reduced while the MV Bowen Queen is in service and to plan to avoid peak periods where possible.
Customers with vehicles wider than 3.05 meters (10 feet) and companies shipping multiple commercial vehicles on this route (e.g. paving, lumber, cement) are advised to coordinate your travel arrangements by calling at 1-888-BCFERRY (223-3779) for more details.
We expect the MV Queen of Capilano to return to service as of the 8:00 am scheduled sailing from Horseshoe Bay.
BC Ferries thanks its customers for their understanding and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
So they are bringing the Bowen Queen all the way up to Bowen Island for one round trip??? Why dont they just cancel the first round trip? It's a Sunday morning I dont think it would be too busy. Plus the Bowen then has to go back to Tsawwassen for her Sunday afternoon route 9a sailings.

Plus the Bowen then has to go back to Tsawwassen for her Sunday afternoon route 9a sailings. Does seem odd to do this for just a single round trip. You'd think crewing the Bowen and transiting her from Tsawwassen to Horseshoe Bay and back wouldn't be financially worth it for BC Ferries to do. Perhaps they're just taking precautions in case the Capilano is not repaired in time for the 8:00 AM sailing? Well whatever the case, Bowen Islanders sure aren't being left out in the cold with this minor inconvenience. I imagine BQ crews will be happy too with the overtime they'll likely get from this, lol!

I am really surprised they are doing this - there is no way this would happen on any other route, I don't think. BCFS seems very focused on building a positive relationship with the Bowenites - which is nice, but it would be even nicer if they considered deploying the equivalent resources relative to population on the other islands they serve...

BC Ferries has recently added one round-trip sailing to all Sundays between September 13 and October 11, 2015 on the Horseshoe Bay – Langdale route. On these five Sundays, the sailing schedule will resemble the one that has been in place during the peak summer season and will match the Monday to Saturday schedule.www.bcferries.com/bcfservicenotice?id=922553

There appears to be something going on in Active Pass. Both route 1 vessels are stopped in the Pass, with RCM-SAR and Seaspan Greg standing by, as well as Coast Guard Hovercraft Penac on her way.

The CBC story has been updated. The apparent culprit has been picked up on Galiano ... There is a passenger's video attached too.
He apparently tampered (seriously tampered) with life-saving equipment, seriously delayed three ferries (C-Cel, SoBC & Seaspan Greg) and both the Coast Guard & RC Marine SAR were dispatched. Fairly serious stuff & worthy of a few years of prison time ...
*I believe some naked & incoherent ferry fanatics were seen in Powell River back in mid September?

The person involved in this ferry-jumping incident is facing some very serious charges, his actions ashore notwithstanding. On board the ferry he is in contravention of Chapter 26 (section 117)of the Canada Shipping Act.2001 He may well be facing charges under the Criminal Code of Canada, Chapter 46, section 75 (b) which is an indictable offense that carries a prison term not to exceed fourteen (14) years.
Back in the late '60's when the 'Queen of Prince Rupert', shared the same dock as the AMHS, we had a Busboy jump overboard from the M.V. 'Taku' while the Taku was leaving Prince Rupert harbour. He had been aboard visiting and hadn't heard the departure announcement and figured he had to (somehow) get back to the QPR. Emergency boat crews from both ferries fished this poor lad out of the drink and the RCMP hauled him off to the AMHS office for some 'splainin'. The Americans were so furious with this incident they were going to send a huge $$ bill to BC Ferries for loss of Lord only knows, etc. This young lad can thank his lucky stars that the Masters of both vessels were good friends and gave this kid a big break. Wacked him upside the head and scared the bejesus out of him and he was back on the QPR in time for our delayed sailing.
The subject of yesterday's incident, will not be as fortunate to get off with a severe scolding, as the times have changed, Bigtime..!

Island Sky is holding at Little River. www.bcferries.com/bcfservicenotice?id=930324Sentry Shoal is reporting 1.2m seas and gusts of 23 knots as of 10:00 am I sure hope the new intermediate vessels are more capable of handling adverse weather conditions.

Island Sky is apparently better at handling rough weather than Queen of Burnaby is, so we're already in an upgrade.

I would think so, considering the plan to sail them from Poland. Also, in terms of deck spray, from the pictures I've seen it looks like there should be no issue with the open decks considering the high walls and the visor.

I can't remember the last time I saw a service notice regarding weather disruptions on the Bowen route... given how sheltered Horseshoe Bay and Snug Cove are, I wonder what the specific issue was there this evening.
Been a rough day on the water, and despite the wind warning being cancelled, still blowing a gale here on Hornby. Delays or cancellations today on the southern routes, and Texada and Cortes without service for most of the day.
Surprised the Kahloke wasn't shut down today at all here on Hornby. Watched a couple of crossings with the binocs, and she was doing the usual storm route when dealing with south-easters, leaving Gravelly Bay and immediately veering into the wind, then bobbing like a cork as she turned northeast, getting into the lee of Hornby.
Not a good day for anyone trying to get off or on to Texada, Cortes, or the southern Gulf Islands from Tsawwassen, but people in these communities know that this pretty much comes with the territory this time of year, and ferry captains and crews do their best to keep boats sailing, within the limits of safety.

I guess it's no surprise that the 'BSC" wasn't out doing any sea trails yesterday?

There's an added sailing on route 7 tomorrow, this should come as no surprise given that the Bowen Queen is on the run, and the 5.5 hour mid day gap. This is probably to avoid the need to run an evening sailing again (and the overtime costs as a result). On the Dear BC Ferries page there is a complaint saying the 15:25 sailing was overloaded before the BQ even completed her morning runs.
And the Queen of Surrey didn't sail at 10:20 or 11:20 this morning. The service notice saying she wouldn't due to mechanical issues was issued at 8:00 am, but the Surrey sailed at 8:20. Weird.
