My understanding is that it will be the Queen of Nanaimo; we're trying to connect the dots ourselves right now. Mystery solved, thanks to 'ferryfanyvr' contacting BC Ferries customer service. Since his question to them, the schedule has been changed, and it now shows the Swartz Bay to Long Harbour trip leaving at 12:30 pm, not 8:55 am. So, yes, that means The Queen of Nanaimo does a Tsawwassen- Gulf Islands- Swartz Bay run, then a jaunt to Long Harbour before her mid-afternoon sailing eastbound. This is assuming, of course, that she's still the Long Harbour based vessel this summer. I hope BC Ferries appreciated the West Coast Ferries Forum helping them with their schedule. Typical docking is stern in at Long Harbour ... and for a single ender, stern in at Swartz Bay. I imagine she'll go bow in at Swartz Bay, which would mean she won't be able to use the overhead walkways...

Well, if there's ever a trip to take as a final "farewell" to the Nanaimo, I think this would be it. Thanks to all involved for solving the mystery.

Lv Tsawwassen 9:15am, Lv Sturdies Bay 10:20am, Lv Village Bay 10:55am, Lv Otter Bay 11:30am, Lv Swartz Bay 12:30pm, Ar Long Harbour 1:25pm, Lv Long Harbour 2:45pm, Ar Tsawwassen 4:10pm. Not sure how one would pay for the Otter Bay- Swartz Bay portion... could it be paid for separately at Tsawwassen? If not, hopefully it could be done onboard, as well as the trip to Long Harbour.

I am sure that you could pay onboard with the Chief Steward if nothing else... It will be an interesting change from the usual "3 over, 3 back" - including for the crew.

Thanks for sharing this Blue Bus Fan . It will be interesting to watch BCF go through this process again. I just reread through this whole thread and found a few of the forums' greatest hits buried within. I'm assuming that since there has been no activity here since the schedules were implemented in 2017, they're reasonably functional. Anyone have any thoughts?

I don’t know why BC Ferries doesn’t group route 5 sailings into two islands at time for each sailing.
I would group these terminals: 1. Sturdies Bay and Village Bay 2. Otter Bay, Lyall Habrour and Village Bay.
Lyall Habrour terminal will see two sailing in the morning and afternoon, one in evening to Swartz Bay. Sturdies Bay and Otter Bay will see seven sailing a day to Swartz Bay. Village bay bay will see fourteen sailing a day to Swartz Bay. The Swartz Bay to Fulford Harbour would gain additional on Fridays and Sundays during off peak season and daily during peak season. Each Island gains additional sailing during peak season to Swartz Bay. The schedule for these routes would change after every sailing to provide more direct service to each island except Saturna Island with require an stop at either Ottter Bay or Village for both directions. The vessels on route 5 would be new Salish Class and MV Malaspina Sky to maintain similar capacity for vehicles and passengers for all islands. MV Malaspina Sky passengers capacity would increase to 600 passengers which would require additional crew members. Queen of Cumberland would be moved to Earls Cove to Salty Bay route.
For the route 9 schedule there be two version one for off peak season and peak season.
I would say for this schedule: Off peak season be similar but with additional sailing added on Monday through Thursday and Saturday as direct to or from Long Habrour to Tsawwassen.
For peak season schedule the Island would be group. The terminals would be like group: 1. Long Harbour, and Otter Bay 2. Sturdies Bay and Village Bay.
All island would see five sailing Monday through Thursday and Saturday. On Fridays and Sunday a sixth sailing would be added to schedule.
The vessels would stay the same on route 9/9a.
Why I am saying this good idea? I thinking it provides more sailing to each Island and more easily connects the Islands to each other and major centres.
Things that I would get rid of for Southern Gulf Island: 1. Lyall Habrour transfer at Village Bay to one from Tsawwassen. These connections would be made via Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay then Swartz Bay to Lyall Habrour. I got rid of this because it adds a little more vessel capacity for the other island on route 9 vessels. 2. Route 5 vessels going to Salt Spring Island because the Swartz Bay to Fulford Harbour handles that traffic. I would add additional sailing to the route to make up for the loss. 3.Sundays only in peak season sailing from Long Habrour to Swartz Bay. I would addition sailing to route 5. 4. I would also eliminate random transfer from Sturdies Bay to Swartz Bay on one of the sailing because it odd, confusing and not needed.

Has the New Spring Schedule been posted for Rout 5 & 5a?
Is the Salish Raven still scheduled to replace the Queen of Cumberland in Early May, when the Salish Heron enters Service on Route 9?
Thanks!
