Traffic is so seasonal that it just doesn't seem worth having a bigger boat in the summer. I don't understand the reasoning behind this comment. Seasonal traffic is Hornby's situation, so it does seem worth having a larger ship in the summer months. Perhaps this will be reality once Quinsam is available (if BSC ever becomes operational)

With that or the BSC will just mean that traffic will pile up at Denman West instead.

Route 2 is the busiest route today as there were three sailing waits from Departure Bay since 1400h!
There are now two waits at that terminal with the final sailing at 2130h already full. The Cowichan should be doing another round trip.

Still plenty of room on Route 30, though - hopefully they send people that way before they pay for an extra round trip on Route 2.
I was at Departure Bay today for the 310 on the Coastal Ren; there were 700 foot passengers!!

Just wondering, Dane....is the berth 2 overhead walkway in operation yet, or are they still boarding/discharging footsies on the MCD?

Route 30 has been busy all day with overheight vehicles. There have two waits from TSA most of the day and the last sailing at 2245h is full.

Overheights are filling up route 30 in both directions. The final sailing at 2245h from both terminals was full for overheights.

Overall, the sailings in both directions are only 60% full. I wonder if it is actually an overload situation for overheights- on a Wednesday night- or if BC Ferries has elected to fill the MCD with drop trailer traffic?

The drop trailer traffic would make sense. I looked at the terminal cameras and I could not see any significant lineup.
Thursday evening traffic on route 30 has the 2015h sailings full from both terminals for overheight traffic. Underheight traffic is 35% to 45% full. The 2245h sailing from TSA is already at 82% for overheight vehicles.

Once again, route 30 from TSA is full for overheights on the 2245h sailing. The 2100h sailing from TSA on route 1 is full again for a Friday evening. There should have been a 2000h sailing. The 2100h from SWB was 86% full.

It is very busy out there today. There are two waits in both directions on route 2! There are also two waits from Duke Point and Swartz Bay and one wait from Tsawwassen on both major routes. The good news is that there will be an extra sailing on route 2 at 2105h. It was supposed to start next Sunday, but, a good decision by BCF to add it today.

Route 30's final sailing from TSA was full for overheights on this Friday evening. The same thing happened this past Monday and Wednesday.
Route 1 had a scheduled sailing from TSA at 2000h and then at 2200h from SWB. The extra round trip was necessary as the 2100h would have left vehicles behind.
There were service notices on route 2 as the Oak Bay and Renaissance were both thirty minutes or more behind schedule. Both Spirit vessels were behind 15-20 minutes for most of the day.

I was wondering why there was an 8pm scheduled from Tsawwassen and a 10pm from Swartz Bay. Anyone know??? Last year on Fridays they used to have an 8pm from Swartz Bay and a 10pm out of Tsawwassen now it's just Sundays!

There are two waits at both Nanaimo terminals on this Sunday afternoon. At Horseshoe Bay there was one wait for underheight vehicles only.

It is a busy Thursday heading into a long weekend. Route 1 has had one wait at both terminals for most of the day. There was a 2000h from TSA which filled up and the 2100h sailing is currently 80% full. The 2100h from SWB is full and there is a final sailing at 2200h.
Route 30 from TSA has had two waits for overheights almost all day and one wait for underheights. The 2245h sailing from TSA is now full for overheights and has been for most of this week except Wednesday.
Route 2 has also had one wait from both terminals. The final sailing at 2130h from HSB is now full.

Does anyone know how much reserved space is taken by reservations on each sailing??? I thought it was like 60% but I saw on a tweet they said 35-55% is reserved but reason I ask is looking at route 30 from Tsawwassen today most sailings were at 70% or more when I looked this morning for afternoon sailings which would be reserved but that seems high for reservations at one point this morning the 3:15pm said 90% full. But 90% for reservations cant be right, lol! That is almost the whole boat!

With the Summer season now in full swing, the 'traffic famine' for BC Ferries would appear to be over. The BCF bean counters must be in seventh heaven watching the line on the traffic and income chart rocket upwards! Outrageous fares, notwithstanding, traffic volumes are now pressing BCF's capacity to the limit on most routes, even routes 10 and 11. There could be strong volume growth on route 40 as well but alas, that is another discussion for another day. Historically, the month of August has not been kind to BC Ferries as it is this crazy Summer month when the system becomes accident prone, With ZERO back-up vessels in the fleet, and the For Sale sign hanging on the 'Wack', Mr. Corrigan's anatomy must appear strange as he navigates the halls of head office with all his toes and fingers crossed hoping that no misfortune befalls his fleet.

There are currently three waits at TSA bound for SWB and was two waits since 845h.
There are two waits at TSA bound for Duke Point. Overheights are almost full for the remaining sailings. There is only one wait at Duke Point with overheights being busy for the rest of the day.
There are also two waits at HSB bound for Departure Bay.

It has been a busy Friday on this BC Day long weekend.
The three waits at TSA on route 1 continued until 1800h, then it became two waits. At SWB, there was one wait until 1915h. The Celebration did a MD sailing from SWB at 2000h and will do a return sailing at 2200h.
Route 2 also has a MD sailing. The Cowichan will do an extra round trip at 2105h and 2305h. The two waits at HSB continued all day.
Route 30's last two sailings were full for overheights at 1715h. Underheight traffic maxed out at 2045h.
Route 3 has been the quietest route of the day with just one wait at the most. The 2040h sailing from HSB was full.
It is nice to see that MD sailings happened.

Hope everyone has had a great long weekend.
Route 30 from Duke Point has three waits for overheight traffic and two waits for underheights since 1330h. The final sailing at 2245h for overheights is already 66% full! From TSA, there are two waits for overheights and the final two sailings are 90% and 85% full respectively.
Route 2 has two waits for all traffic from Departure Bay and one wait from HSB.
Route 1 has two waits for all traffic from TSA.

There was an MD sailing on route 1 as the Celebration did a 2000h/2200h round trip.
Route 30 from TSA filled for overheights on the final sailing at 2245h and has been all week long. From Duke Point, it is not full but was on Wednesday.
Route 2 from HSB had one sailing wait for most of the day and was 97% full for the final sailing. All three vessels were about twenty minutes behind schedule.

The 2100h sailing on Route 1 from SWB has been full for an hour. No additional sailing at 2000h/2200h from either terminal.
The 2130h sailing on Route 2 from Dep. Bay is full now. There is room at Duke Point which is only 70% full.
