Hiyu may have recently completed her final WSF assignment. ...or maybe not. But it's likely that she is now done for good. To mark the occasion, here's an opportunity for you to share your memories of riding this little ship. What was the first Hiyu trip that you took that you remember? What was the final Hiyu trip that you took that you remember? What was the most memorable or favorite Hiyu trip that you took that you remember? Thanks for sharing your Hiyu memories.

I'd never set foot on the Hiyu until I started working for WSF. She was my first assignment, back in 1997, working on the interisland circuit. I had no clue what I was doing but I had a great time.
My last trip on the Hiyu was about three years later, when I was breaking in as chief mate. The Hiyu needed a day of shakedown cruising, a couple of us were up for navigation practice, and we tootled about the central Puget Sound for about seven hours.
Both captains in those instances have retired; so has my deck partner for that first day.

My first trip was 4 years ago when she was assigned to Point Defiance to Telaquah, knowing this is a once in a lifetime chance, I made the drive, took a round trip on her.
My last trip was 3 years ago when she was assigned to the Vashon Triangle with Mileage Photo, we got to Vashon and saw the Hiyu at the dock, we asked them if we could transfer to Hiyu, so we got on board her trip to Fauntleroy.

First trip I remember: Back in 2007 after returning to service (and first trip on her before she was reassigned to the San Juans in 1990).
Last trip: Unscheduled 6:35 AM (or so) trip from Vashon to Fauntleroy 07/23/2015.
Most memorable: Probably back in 2007 on her first day back in service. I made an unscheduled trip to Tahlequah to get pictures (I didn't do the previously mentioned "first trip I remember" until a day or 2 later).

My "final" Hiyu will actually be coming up in about 8 weeks, on a trip from Lake Union!
