Grenville Channel is pretty awesome, even on a cloudy day. On a summer northbound trip, this is from approx 7:30pm to 9:30pm (on southbound in summer, it is approx 9:00am to 11:00am). This is northbound, on August 4, 2015. --------------------- Entering the channel, and looking back at Wright Sound and an island named Gil . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr I love the layering of the points of land in the mist. . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr Looking back... . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr Leaving the channel, near Oona River . by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr

Part 4 of my Inside Passage series is a bit of a somber one: Wright Sound. We approach the sound from McKay Reach, and leave it via Grenville Channel. For part of the way across the sound, my camera is zoomed on the shore of Gil Island. I didn't see the crosses, but I still show the shore passing by. Just before you get to Prince Rupert ferry terminal, you pass the Fairview container port. Here's what it looks like at 11:00pm, in a driving rain - August 4, 2015 Snapshot 5418- 5 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr

Part 5 of my Inside Passage video series is Grenville Channel. This narrow passage takes 2 hours to transit, and is very narrow in places.
On this northbound trip, the misty weather gives a winter-like effect.
Viewing goes best with a glass of Porter. Enjoy.

Here is Part 6, which is my final instalment for my northbound trip on Route 10:
-----------
I have some video clips from the southbound journey, but not extensive, and mainly just for the Bella Bella stop. I will post that later.
But for now, I'm happy with the series that shows most of what a northbound trip looks like.

Great videos Mike, too bad Grenville Channel was rather winter-like as the scenery is magnificent on a clear bright sunny day. The southbound 2 hour trip down always a lovely quiet time on the ship in the afternoon when back in the day we left Prince Rupert at 13:00 hours, arriving in Kelsey Bay, ( tide and current conditions were always a factor), about 09:00.

Ok, so here is Part-7 of my Inside Passage series, the only southbound segment.
- this is from the sunny evening part of the southbound voyage, on August 7, 2015.
It's poorer quality than the others, because it's filmed with my Samsung phone, using a railing as a somewhat stable platform.
But it shows good views of the approach and departure at McLoughlin Bay.

It doesn't look like much. A wake showing evidence of a course change, and the faint outline of a light-marker on a point in the distance. Ferries have sailed in this area for almost 50 years, and they've always made the course-change at this place, except once. - This is the north part of Wright Sound, looking back at Sainty Point 20150807_111153 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr And a few minutes earlier, here is the light at Sainty Point, as we exit Grenville Channel. 20150807_110922 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr - morning of August 7, 2015, southbound on the Northern Expedition

Continuing southbound, with scenes captured by my Samsung phone. - August 7, 2015 Tolmie Channel, just north of Boat Bluff: I woke up from a nap, and was surprised to see the sun. Here's the view from aft on Deck 7 - oh, there's a panel of glass missing. I didn't notice it on August 4th, so it must have happened on the 5th or 6th.... 20150807_141020 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr 20150807_141056 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr

Boat Bluff is a tight, blind corner on the BC Ferries Inside Passage route. This picturesque location is just north of Klemtu, and is encountered at approximately 4:15pm on a summer northbound trip, or 2:30pm on a summer southbound trip. So it is somewhat close to the half-way point, time-wise (and is very close to the actual distance-wise halfway point). Here it is on a sounthbound trip on August 7, 2015, on Northern Expedition. Being a risk area of the trip, the Master is on the bridge. 20150807_141514 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr 201508a07_141546 by Mike Bonkowski, on Flickr - with her Senior Master, Captain Orval Bouchard.
