With Labour Day around the corner, many vessels are about to head into refit. I just had a look at the route 2 reservation page, and it looks like the Renaissance is on the route from November 9th onward (the system goes as far as 31-Dec-2015). The Oak Bay goes into phase 2/2 of her 3/4 life upgrade in mid-November until February 2016.
As of today Queen of Coquitlam - off September 8th-November 19th. Subs for the Oak Bay over the 3/4 life. Queen of Cowichan - route 2 extra until Thanksgiving, full service until November 8th. Off November 9th-December 19th. Queen of Oak Bay - 2nd phase of 3/4 life November 20th-Feb 2016 Queen of Surrey - nothing scheduled yet. (Speculation - phase 1 of 3/4 life right after the holidays). Coastal Renaissance - route 2 full service until thanksgiving. Off October 13th-November 8th.
That's about it for route 2/3 major vessels. It looks like route 1 will get two full-time buffet equipped vessels through the winter.

BS Connector is being criticized by some forum members for lacking sufficient freeboard and for being ugly.
Rediculas I say!!
I refer you to Frank Clapp's book - British Columbia Department of Highways Ferries (1973 edition, page 18).
Check-out the image of CATHERINE GRAHAM. She has freeboard of not very much and no beauty anywhere.
She operated on this route for about 20 years (April 1954 until February 1973)
Compared to Catherine G., BS Connector looks like a cruise ship.

The Catherine Graham was a humble little craft carrying eight cars, serving Denman and Hornby at a time when the two islands had probably less than 400 people between them. Hornby's Lorraine S 2 wasn't any prettier, but she was made on the island by islanders... a point much more salient than any question of looks.
I doubt that anyone on the islands is overly interested in the BS Con's aesthetics. The very concept and the execution are the issues.

The Nanaimo is going into refit on October 14th-mid December. As always, she will be replaced by the Burnaby, which will be replaced by the Island Sky. Does this mean the Wack is making a comeback on the Saltery-Earls run? The schedule points towards the Bowen Queen being the replacement, but my fingers are crossed.

Thanks 'SC Commuter', for this refit news on two more of my 'old-homes'. With the refit swat of these two grand old girls, the travel distance to do my farewell tour will be considerably shorter in distance and a few bucks cheaper.
