Thanks After putting "Capacity Tractor" into a search: It's the truck that BC Ferries uses for loading and unloading drop trailers. Capacity is the company that makes them. I recall they had one parked on the Nimpkish when I rode her last year and it appears that same practice is done on the Sea Wolf.

I'd be interested to learn the extent of drop trailer business on the central coast. With about fifty residents year round at Ocean Falls, can't be much there, and Shearwater can't generate much more. Through traffic from Port Hardy to Bella Coola? Maybe it's mainly a seasonal thing.

The other part that had me confused is "to hostle customer vehicles". Can't in the life of me understand what they're really trying to say. . .

The two dictionaries I poked into last night both provided the historical meanings of the verb 'to hostle'. Beats me why someone at BCFS would pull that particular word out of the dust bin? Maybe they just wanted us to actually do a bit of homework.

BC Ferries offers both a commercial drop trailer service on the Northern Vessels. The “Capacity” is what’s know as the actual tractor that is used to pull the trailers. Each ship is equipped with at least one, except the Northern Adventure gets two while running route 11. I believe the Northern Expedition would get the second unit once the Adventure heads south for winter hibernation at Deas. On route 11 there is huge demand for Drop trailers. It’s not uncommon to see up to 12 units on the Adventure, plus the general traffic.
As for the vehicle hostles, this is another service that the ferries offer on the Northern runs. People have the option to drop their vehicle off at the terminal at a minimum of 4 hours before departure, and a BCF certified driver will drive the vehicle onboard the vessel. You can book this for any leg of the journey on the north coast or for multiple legs, ie: Skidegate to Port Hardy. Alot of customers also drop off boat trailers, RVs, cars, and more recently, tiny homes on wheels. If it’s road legal, they’ll take it. Some of the locals will choose hostle their vehicle, especially if they’re towing something on to the Adventure so they don’t have to drive on to the ship in reverse. I can’t find a posted fee for this service though.
On the Mid Coast run there’s a fair bit of hostled vehicles or trailers going to/from Port Hardy and Bella Bella or Shearwater. In the late spring I observed several boats being hostled up to Bella Bella for the fishing lodges. There will be maybe one or two commercial drop trailers on Route 10 overall.

It is a late night on route 30, the Alberni left Duke Point at 0035h. "Please be advised that the Queen of Alberni is currently operating 110 minutes behind schedule due to assisting a vessel in distress in conjunction with the Coast Guard earlier tonight. In addition, it took extra time to safely load as many vehicles as possible on each sailing, as well, a delay was caused by a stalled vehicle earlier in the day."

Does this mean that in the normal time allotted between trips, BCF is unable to load as many vehicles as the vessel can fit?

Apparently the Northern Sea Wolf was delayed again. She left Port Hardy at 5pm and arrived this morning at 5am in Bella Coola. Her return sailing will be delayed till 2pm arriving in Port Hardy at 11:30pm which seems kinda quick. Didn't know that ship could make up time. That would suck if you booked the northbound trip for a daylight cruise then have to spend all night on that boat with nothing to sleep in other than the typical BC Ferries seats. This is the second time I seen this ship delayed this long. www.bcferries.com/current_conditions/travel-advisory.html

Total waste of time and money on that vessel,...unfortunately.

Ferry cancellations has happened for all route 1 vessels excluding the 2:00 pm sailing from Swartz Bay and 4 pm sailing from Tsawwassen and Queen of Cowichan for sailing from 10:40 to 3:20. www.bcferries.com/current_conditions/travel-advisory.htmlWhat with Queen of Oak Bay, Salish Orca and route 30 vessels being able to sail today.

So why is it that with these cancellations the Cowichan was cancelled earlier and the Oak Bay wasn’t?? Why did the SOVI sail at 7pm from Swartz Bay yet the SOBC from Tsawwassen dident?? It didn’t make sense yet route 30 was sailing as normal!

Ship characteristics. Sheesh Karl is it your first day?! 😋
We headed over the to Mainland just now on the Celebrations nominal 4pm sailing which left at 7pm from Swartz Bay. I'm shocked we sailed, but it was a lot of fun. My second bumpiest trip ever, easily the windiest I've seen them sail in a while. I was at the front of deck 4 and a wave came over me!! Sailing time was about two hours, as usual, fine until we left Active Pass.
And the SoVI you mentioned departing when the SoBC didn't has been hanging out in Active Pass for about forty minutes. Not sure if it's for weather or because Tsawwassen has no births (SoBc, CCel, Alberni).
