I hope that somebody will be able to identify which ferry we took from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay in late December 1985 around noon or early afternoon. I took this pic as my brother drove on board the upper car deck, but there aren't really many details to go by. The Queen of Oak Bay, perhaps? Thanks in advance! Heretix

Heretix My guess is the Queen of Surrey, as the early afternoon sailing would have been the Nanaimo-based boat which was, at that time, the Surrey, I think. The Oak Bay was then (I think) the Horseshoe Bay based boat which would have sailed from Horseshoe Bay at 6:30 or 7:00, 10:30 or 11:00, 15:00, 19:00. You can see to the left of the vehicle ahead a 'lifting arm' that formed one half of the upper car deck 'gate'. At that time only the latter two of the C-class vessels (the Surrey & Oak Bay) had those.

Thanks a bunch, Wett Coast. It's never easy to solve a cold case, but I guess you guys have the necessary local knowledge and interest in details to remember how things were in the last millennium when a couple of young Vikings wandered across the pond...
