September of this year marks the fifteenth anniversary of the tragedy and horrific attack on America that occurred on September 11, 2001.
To commemorate that, and as an architecture enthusiast, I am creating a fully-immersible 3D walkthrough of the original World Trade Center in New York.
Here are some renders of the project.
It's modeled entirely in SketchUp and the renders are done in Thea. I hope to export them to a platform sometime this summer, once the model is complete, that will allow web-based VR tours.
The banners on the plaza lightposts were also sourced from original Port Authority advertising, which promoted concerts that were being held in the five-acre plaza between the towers the summer of 2001. In fact, one of the dates advertised on the banners, was a performance scheduled the evening of September 11, 2001.
The model itself (which will also feature an immersive tour of what was once the underground shopping mall underneath the plaza) is sourced off of a complete file listing of blueprints of the complex I've had in my possession since 2001, including structural framing plans of every floor, of every single building.
There were seven buildings in all.
