Hats off to Scott for presenting this challenge. Anyone who can succeed in making this thing look interesting or aesthetically pleasing will have my undying respect.

[parody] I suppose that we should have done some public consultation about using BSC for our forum banner. But every banner theme that we've wanted to do, we've made it work.
After voting is completed, for the first few days of the BSC banner displays we will have some Quinitsa banners standing by, just in case we need to use those on rough proboards days. [/parody]
But to be serious, I think that a ferry can be interesting even if it's ugly.

So, April Fools' does not end at at noon on the 1st? When will the 'real' theme be announced? Are we going to permit our members in Washington State, Alaska & other places far away from Baynes Sound to have something they can participate in? This will make it a continuous four months that they have been more or less 'shut out'.
How about fuzzy photos of the Queen of Richmond for a theme?

Remember that this is a fun, easy-going activity for the forum to participate in - there's no reason to take this seriously. I don't think being critical of chosen themes is a productive use of the nomination threads.

I put a smiley in my 'critical' post, and I think that any post suggesting "fuzzy pictures of the Queen of Richmond" is also, most likely, tongue in cheek.

I wonder if Buckley Bay has been struck with the radioactive moss previously sighted at Bear Cove? Was this comment critical of my photography made 'tongue in check'? I may not be too thrilled with this choice of themes, and I believe my reasoning was 'reasonable'. Slagging the photos of others though, that is a bit much.

We've had flagships that have limited out areas before, and there's always been a flagship related to a new vessel. Why break the trend just because this is a ship you aren't happy about? We'll most certainly have a flagship in the coming years about the new Salish class, no matter how unhappy people are about them being "foreign".

My tongue in cheek post aside, I'm not overly concerned about whether the BS Con gets featured or not. Have to correct you on one point though, considering that this is a ferry forum where basic terminology matters.
The BS Con is most definitely not a ship. It can't navigate, and it doesn't have a captain. When BC Ferries put out requests for interested shipyards, they specified that the thing would be constructed according to Lloyd's specs applying to "barges and pontoons". I guess you could call it a 'vessel', but it seems more like a moving bridge structure. It's certainly a ferry, since traditionally, a ferry can even be a rowboat.
And to the suggestion that the header thread should be an entirely controversy free zone, I'd suggest that maybe a little controversy might focus some more attention here, and hence a few more participating voters.

I have an idea for a new theme - bridge shots with other ferries seen through the window!

The BS Con is most definitely not a ship. It can't navigate, and it doesn't have a captain. Just to be a fink, I must say that the definition of ship is vague at best, unless one is referring to ship water, which is not the same as transporting it by FEDEX, but is universally considered to be a bad thing on all vessels that are supposed to remain afloat. Not all ships have Captains - our Orca PCTs are an example, having an Officer In Command, v a Captain. The Kingston Class MCDVs do have a Captain, but he or she might be a Lieutenant or a Lieutenant Commander, and not a Captain. A dinghy under sail and a zodiac can be steered in a given direction, and one could use a compass and chart or the Mark One Eyeball to navigate around the gulf Islands on them, but they are boats, not ships. Clearly navigation has nothing to do with it, especially when you consider that the MCDVs and the BSC stop and go when someone on the bridge movies a little stick. Our warships carry boats, as does the BSC, and they both have multiple engines, so engines have nothing to do with it. Heck, put sails on a destroyer or a frigate and it's still a warship, right? Anchors? Nope, the BSC and warships and fish boats and tugs and cruise ships all have anchors. Passengers? Nope. Not required. To further confuse the situation, we often row the Admiral about in his barge, a vessel that certainly can be navigated if one wants to protect their career. G'nite all...

Maybe not a fink, but most definitely a sower of discord.
One might make an arguable claim that the BS Con is a 'boat'. I wouldn't expend any energy challenging that. Ship... never, although you are very correct about the definition of that term. I remember camping with a deep sea mariner who spat in the fire when I referred to the Queen of Sidney as a ship.
