So what happens first... Salish Eagle arrives or Salish Orca goes into service? Salish Eagle is supposed to arrive before March 31st. I think that Salish Orca will go into service sometime during April. So Eagle will arrive before Orca goes into service. I also expect that Eagle and Raven will both go into service sooner after arrival, compared to the first ship Orca. The first one always seems to take longer, because it's the first. And it made sense to do all the dock testing at the beginning, because the other 2 ships will be needed for busier spring, so they won't have time for those "all over the place" test trips.

But I wonder in the summer what they do with the Eagle? Obviously it's smaller than the Nanaimo so the one-for-one replacement doesn't work for busy seasons. Is the Raven here before the summer in time to enter service? I hadn't been keeping close tabs.

Hopefully that works out! Tight timings never bode well but if they're really in a bind they could send the Nanaimo to Comox and have the two Salish on the Rte 9 group, but that's probably just ferry fantasy talk by me.

I hope they do an open ship for Salish Eagle at Tsawwassen before she enters service. I might actually make the drive up for that, especially since I won't be able to get to the Salish Orca open ship events - too far and my schedule is crazy right now.
It's quite a year for new ferries in our waters with the Salish triplets and the 3rd Olympic (Chimacum) entering service.

1030pm & closing up on abeam off Ensenada Mexico. Marine Traffic is showing the arrival here for Monday at 7am but so far not showing up on the Pacific Pilotage Authority which means a Pilot hasn't been called as of yet.
On a side note the Eagle is taking it's time heading up the Mexico west coast. After being abeam off Cabo San Lucas Monday usually a cruise ship can be back in L.A. 2 days later, where it looks as if the Eagle is going to take a extra 2 days?

I hate to say it, and not to be rude either, but it's not really fair to compare the Salish Eagle to a cruise ship. Most cruise ships are capable of doing upwards of 20 knots to make those quick turnarounds and tours. But the required speed for each voyage is carefully planned out well ahead of time before the voyage is ever advertised. The Salish Eagle has been making a good speed of about 13.5 knots which is pretty decent for a ship of her size and propulsion. She can only do 17 knots at best with everything running full out which is obviously not optimal for fuel economy, and that is paramount for long voyages like this.

The Master has put a tentative order in for 06:00 on Monday morning, March 20. Watch for the shipping agent to firm this up and make what ever adjustments are necessary, including actual destination.

Salish Eagle will be going to Odgen Point Cruise Ship Terminal according to the Pacific Pilotage Authority Interesting to see that. I guess that the folks from the "front office" of BCF want to see that ferry first before the staff of Deas VMC get their hands on her for "readiness to service" preparations. One fun thing I'd like to see is a pic of a BCF "Salish-Class" ferry and our WSF SALISH "standing" side-by-side to each other.

Just outside the big equipment gate onto Pier B there is one large event tent and 2 smaller tents erected. They might be the setting up for the cruise ship season, or perhaps there will be some splashy event taking place with the Raven; perhaps naming, blessing, or maybe even open houses. Keep you eyes and ears out for some sort of announcement.

I heard a very much unsubstantiated rumour the decal is going on at Esquimalt's drydock.

Can anyone confirm or deny the Salish Eagles destination? If she will be docking anywhere in Victoria I might have to try and fit in a "Eagle spotting" adventure tomorrow.

Pier B (the northern pier) at Ogden Point. If any members are out there tomorrow morning for her arrival, I look forward to seeing you!

Is 7am still the ETA? I'm coming off nights. If it's actually 7 I will go but I'd need to tap out pretty shortly thereafter to sleep.

Looks like she's on her way to arriving at Ogden Point, probably in an hour or so. She is currently off Rocky Point now as of 6:40am, cruising at 10.4 kts. Actually, VTS shows her on the Olympic Peninsula side of the strait, closer to Lower Elwha than Rocky Point.

Here they are: Hope these are clear enough for you to enjoy. There was wind on the shaky camera, so I had to press the Print Screen the split-second I had a good image of the subject of interest. I also have an image of her off Ogden Point. From BigWaveDave. It's CW'd, though. I'll let a mod decide if I should display that one. WELCOME HOME TO YOUR INTENDED WATERWAYS OF SERVICE, MV SALISH EAGLE!
