On my recent vacation I got to travel on Gozo Ferries during my time in Malta. There are three ships, Malta Ta'pinu and Gaudos. Gaudos seems to be the vessel that handles trucks and oversized vehicles only. The other two have two car decks. They are not long ships, but seem to pack in quite a few cars! The vessels cross between Cirkewwa on Malta and Mgarr on Gozo. Sailing time each way is 25 minutes. (and, yes, you can buy beer on board) Foo passenger fare is 4.65 euros. Here are a few photos from my trip! Malta Cirkewwa Harbour Bow of the Ta' Pinu Front deck Main outside deck Main Car deck Upper car deck Upper Deck Gaudos docking at Cirkewwa

I'm assuming that the upper deck has internal ramps for cars to drive down to the lower deck, and then off the ship.

Yes, they do. I was surprised to read later that vehicle capacity is only 72 vehicles. There are four lanes of traffic that I can see. It was hard trying to even get down to the car decks. Passenger loading is similar to here.
