A thread for any photos, information, or discussion of old transit systems, buses, etc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sandon is a ghost town located five miles down a dirt road, off Highway 31A between Kaslo and New Denver. There's not a lot there, but there is the very strange sight of several Vancouver Brill trolley buses in various states of decomposition. Someone had the idea of preserving or selling them to museums or collectors, but most have sat there since brought to the town some time after 2001. I grew up in Vancouver's East End, a few blocks south of the PNE, and a block or so east of Renfrew Street. We didn't have a car most of those years, and the 16 Renfrew bus was the one I took downtown, 7 Dunbar or 18 Arbutus going the other way. It was almost surreal seeing that bus sign in a place like Sandon, off in the middle of nowhere. I suppose 16 Renfrew was the last run that bus ever made... or perhaps someone had just scrolled it. I'm always intrigued to find things completely out of place in a natural setting, and this bunch of Brills in Sandon certainly qualifies.

This Summer, 2416 again took to the streets of Vancouver, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the beginning of trolley bus service in 1948. Here are some views of it on both Night and Day photo charters, with an appearance by 4612, the Transit Museum Society's 1964 GM New Look aka "Fishbowl" TRAMS 2416 - Nanaimo Station by Michael, on Flickr TRAMS 2416 & 4612 - 41st & Crown by Michael, on Flickr
