Just adding on to the discussion in thr MV Nicola thread regarding drone footage, without taking away from the Nicola. But despite all of the rules and regulations around drones now, I’m still finding alot of content of drone footage in what would most probably be illegal airspace for the drones. Boatnerd, the group that follows the Great Lakes cargo ships features alot of drone footage of ships making their way up the St. Clair River, which also serves as the Canada/USA border. Great perspective to watch, but regardless of the regulations, it still feels like cheating from a landlocked ship photographer’s point of view. Here’s a preview of a ship I lived and worked on for four months straight (5 years ago) the Algoma Enterprise. This particular person usually posts their photos from this perspective, but then adds a link to the video footage to the description of their post

Excellent cover music also. Approved flying space for drones will become a larger issue when attempting to film near airspaces, harbours/ports etc. In Canada are restricted areas covered by Transport Canada or? Over the course of time we have enjoyed countless great photos of all kinds of vessels entering Vancouver harbor as they near and pass under the Lions Gate Bridge. Wondering what the drone flying rules are for that area. Drone footage of the Queen Elizabeth arriving May 21st would be spectacular.
