Hard to believe, but 6 months have already passed and we're now ready to pick the new flagship theme. We've decided to make it an annual rotation now, so the theme for 2021 will last the entire year.
the 2021 theme is this: Retired west coast ferries. We've done current ferries of the west coast. It makes sense to do a retired ferries theme. There will be 12-13 photos displayed on the banner, depending on how the voting goes, with the following breakdown:
- 5-6 photos representing retired BC Ferries - 3-4 photos representing retired Washington State Ferries - 1 photo representing retired Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) - Chilkat, Chilkoot, Wickersham, EL Bartlett, Taku - 1 photo representing retired BC Ministry of Highways ferries (the interior lake & river ferries) - 1 photo representing other retired ferries along the west coast
nomination guidelines - You can submit up to 5 photos - Photo does not have to be your own, but if it isn't, please give credit to the photographer in a corner of your cropped photo - You are allowed to submit photos previously entered in past contests
photo guidelines (flagship nomination rules still apply) - Banner size = 1200x340 pixels - post 1024x290 nomination to thread with link to full size image - please make sure all of your links work
Entries will be accepted up through 6:00pm PST on Dec 29. A voting poll will be set up and then you will be able to vote on the entries

My fifth & final submission, this one representing the Sidney class, BC Ferry originals ... On a foggy morning, Queen of Sidney nears Westview Terminal (Powell River) with the first sailing of the day from Comox In late August 1993.

This photo scene brings back lots of memories. In summers 1993 and 1994 I was studying for my various Chartered Accountancy exams. I lived in Nanaimo and my girlfriend (now wife of 25 years) lived in Powell River. I'd take this ferry to visit her, and the upper aft lounge (a not well-known part of the ship to most passengers) became my study lounge. The lounge had a wooden coffee table, and I used it for my books and papers. Good times.

Three last-minute entries for me this time 'round: Having been reassigned to the archipelago nearly two years prior, the Klahowya returns to Vashon Island for one final brief stint on the route she had called home for more than half a century. FULL SIZE HERE
November 2018: The Elwha has just returned to service, unaware of just how short her $25 million reprieve is to be, as her sister Hyak is aware of the fact that she is also operating on borrowed time.
