Car deck windows!
At the end of their lives, the Queens of Vancouver and Victoria had car deck windows on the main car deck. The Queens of Saanich and Esquimalt only had them on their upper car deck.

At this rate, at what time would the combo be offshore of UBC? And what time would she be offshore of Tsawwassen/Roberts Bank? You guys could probably give educated guesses.

The Craig Trans is passing the Surrey right now.
It'd be awesome if someone onboard is taking photos. Not likely, though...

:)you know it would almost be a good thing if I heard she took a deep sea dive, and suffered a 'burial at sea', in fact it would be wonderful in my mind! thots of a former crew member! mrdot. mrdot.

Past Turn Point, as close as she'll get to Swartz Bay, one of the terminals she served faithfully in her career.

I have a question, but first a few facts...
1 - The Saanich & its tug are heading for Lázaro Cárdenas, not Ensenada, as was the case with the Vancouver & Esquimalt.
2 - The tug hauling her (the Craig Trans) is Bolivian Registered.
Now the question...
It is apparent (?) that the Saanich is not going to Ensenada to be broken up there. Is it to be broken up in Lázaro Cárdenas (which is in Mexico, but on the east (Gulf) coast, I gather. (Might there be a Panama Canal transit happening for the Saanich?) Or is the destination noted on the SiiTech screen shots possibly an error? Or is it just possible that we all have it wrong and the Saanich will live another day, some where in tropical seas?
Do we have solid info as to the Saanich's destination and future?
Correction: Lázaro Cárdenas is not on the east coast but on the mainland Pacific coast well to the south of the 'BC' peninsula', so no Panama Canal.

Here are what should be the final webcam pictures of the QUEEN OF SAANICH from her home province of British Columbia. These are from Sooke: The ship is on the right side of these photos. Last webcam photo capture opportunity until maybe Catalina Island.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTSWe thank BigWaveDave as well as Race Rocks and the operators of the west San Juan Island webcams for being sources of these pictures. Support these sources and patronize them.

Correction: Lázaro Cárdenas is not on the east coast but on the mainland Pacific coast well to the south of the 'BC' peninsula', so no Panama Canal. The Saanich was sold to Reciclajes Ecologicos Maritimos SA (Ecomar), which has their facility in Lázaro Cárdenas. As this company only scraps vessels, it's highly unlikely that she will avoid the cutting torches. In fact, the only way I could see her avoiding them would be if she sinks while under the tow of the Craig Trans. Just to add, the Esquimalt and Vancouver were both purchased by Infraestructura y Servicios Portuarios SA, hence the different final destination.

Here's what the port of Lazaro Cardenas looks like from high above. The inset of where this city is comes from the airport's (MMLC) site.

I see that the latest Siitech report has the Craig Trans steaming at 6.4 knots... but for most of today, it was poking along at as little as 3.9, and generally at 5.5 or less. This was less than when the Alan G headed south with the 'Vancouver.
Any insight as to why the slower pace? Tides, perhaps?
