I haven't seen her on Route 40, so I'm curious to know how they determine where to put all the vehicles bound for the multiple destinations. Is it similar to Route 9 where cars are essentially turned around at the stern? For Route-40, there isn't usually much multi-port vehicle traffic. On the Saturday night trip from Port Hardy, most vehicles would be getting off at either Bella Bella or Bella Coola, and so both are loaded in same direction. Someone driving on that sailing from Bella Bella to Bella Coola would have to back-onto the ship in Bella Bella. The high vehicle-traffic sailings are the direct 1-day sailings between Port Hardy & Bella Coola, so loading is not an issue. For the other multi-port sailings, there's not much vehicle traffic, so there's room to turn-around on the deck or simple just to back on. Trivia item: for the direct sailing from Bella Coola to Port Hardy, I've seen the platform-deck used for cars.

We don't need racist slurs here, thank you very much. You're off base, CV. glasseye is refering to a famous quote where George Bush congratulated the incompetent head of FEMA over their handling of the New Orleans disaster. You're too young to have caught the reference.

We don't need racist slurs here, thank you very much. We don't need people here who are ignorant of the characters and legendary rhetoric of the USA Government's response to Hurricane Katrina, thank you very much. In case the 3 replies to this allegation are too subtle in enlightening our crusader, here's another fact: - The FEMA guy's surname was "Brown". (just in case you concluded that George W. Bush was using a slur). ;D Too funny, Crusader Luke. First the beer thing on Black Ball's facebook page, and now this.

I guess it's not like it wasn't inevitable, it was just a matter of minutes before she broke the schedule. I thought they would change the schedule to accommodate her slow speed?

Does that mean a tugboat is guiding the Kuper along it's route, then, or just during docking?

I can't believe there are no service delays or cancellations today. The power was out here on Hornby for sixteen hours, and when I went for a walk at Helliwell a while ago, the strait looked like the open Pacific, and it was blowing so hard it was difficult to stand still, or breathe when facing the wind. It must be calmer elsewhere...

I thought there might've been some swells brewing out there. Whenever the clouds move across the sky quickly, it seems that something happens out on the water. We notice nothing on the ground in Maple Ridge though.

There is a current service notice re the weather impacted schedule of the NorAd on routes 10 & 11. I gather it is pretty awful out there.
On the Inland North coast it is raining - making up in a few days for a generally dry summer & September, too. I was told the the Kitimat fire hall recorded 40 mm of rain in a 10 hour period overnight. My guess is 100 mm over the last 24 hours.

Regarding the flooding in the Bella Coola Valley and the damage to Hwy 20, I've created a separate new thread.
- it's currently in the General-Discussion page.
The Bella Coola situation is serious and will likely see a working-freight response from either a ferry company (BCF?) or some private barge companies.
So that new thread is a place to discuss and share-news on how working-freight can/will respond to this disaster.

This just in on News 1130, the Queen of British Columbia has taken 3 hours and 11 minutes to cross to Swartz Bay with today's 7am sailing from Tsawwassen. What's wrong with her then? I checked a bunch of webcams fro areas near route 1, and there's no big storm. Maybe it's gusty on the water? Maybe she's having engine troubles? Maybe someone has more information on the problem?
