San Juans covered with snow as captured from webcams yesterday: Guemes Train at Anacortes. CHETZEMOKA at Orcas. CHETZEMOKA at Friday Harbor. CHETZEMOKA leaving Friday Harbor. Yes, it does snow in Friday Harbor. And at Orcas. ELWHA at the dock. Nightfall.

. CHETZEMOKA leaving Friday Harbor. Looks like Chelan. Are you asking if that is Chelan, or are you just stating that Chetzemoka looks a little like Chelan in that webcam photo? Outside of the full-width bridge, Chetzy does look a little like Chelan in that particular photo, but of course Chelan is down at Mukilteo right now.

Might be the same committed deckhand who looks after bells and brasswork so well. Or possibly an entirely different sense of the word "committed", but I will leave it at that ;D.

From that angle, you must admit that she looks like an Issaquah 130, and Chelan is the only 130 that has served the Islands in a while. (To the best of my knowledge. I could be wrong.) But I do know that it is The Chetz

That is the place to be up North if you like snow! I would love to see the north meaning north of Prince George and the Yukon Alaska and NWT.

I often say that when it snows, it's time to go to a hockey game. And that's what I did. Yesterday. To a rare Canucks Saturday matinee. All photos were taken by my cell phone. Not as sharp, but still tells a story of what conditions were like on my first train trip with great amounts of snow on the ground in a few areas. There was a bit of wind yesterday morning as we cruise by the waters of Puget Sound aboard the morning northbound train to Vancouver. Everett. Everett. Everett. North of Everett. North of Everett. A little bit of snow in the Bellingham area. Snow north of Bellingham. Some rough stormy seas in the White Rock area after the Border. Snow and the great bridges that link us to New Westminster. There was some ice on the waters of the Fraser River. Little or no snow was seen at Pacific Central Station. Opening face off as the puck is dropped starting the Canucks game against the Sharks. The big orca whale ate the sharks as the Canucks won the game. That big goal horn is good and loud and it felt good in my eardrums. One of the most rewarding things in going to a professional major league hockey game is seeing the little ones come on the ice during intermission and play a bit of hockey. Timbits Hockey at its best. Tim Hortons is such a great company to set up this kind of wonderful thing for the kids who want to play the game of Hockey. And in front of a large crowd appreciative of their efforts. Does this remind you of an event we enjoyed seeing in 2010? Back in Seattle. This bus stop still had a bit of snow on the sides of the road. It was a great trip. Fun to see the snow. Fun to be wearing a Canucks sweater. There were others aboard the train who also wore Canucks sweaters and going to the game as well. Snow. Ice. Hockey. Means of getting to the rink. People. These are what make it special going to a Hockey game in the winter.

We have had just two dustings where the tops of the grass is still poking out of the white stuff. Golf courses are already complaining that there will be a lot of "burn" this year, and gardeners are worrying what the freeze/ thaw cycle without a protective snow blanket is doing to their plants. Very strange weather.

I saw your train go by while I was on the SkyTrain! It's pretty cool. I used to play Timbits hockey, but before they played at Canucks games. My little sister played with Timbits as well, and she played a couple Giants games and one Canucks game. Before skating on to the ice, they give the kids an opportunity to meet and greet with the players before they skate onto the ice.

Well spring is almost here and the snow is melting - not fast enough. In fact, more has fallen just this morning. Kitimat means "The People of the Snow" in the Tsimshian language (First Nation living in the Terrace region). This year we have well & truly been living up to the name... In answer to Neil's question I have this photo taken earlier this evening (April 2nd) at the same location on Angle Street, Kitimat. We did have a 'dusting' of new slush today, btw, which can be seen in this photo. photo © JST by Wett Coast, on Flickr[/size] This location is sort of a 'worst case' street scene here where the 'People of the Snow' live. The snow piles are much reduced from their peak in mid February, and in much of town the snow is gone or will be very soon. In Terrace, our neighbouring town (50 km north of Kitimat), the snow is pretty much history for this year. They are in the 'dry belt' though. Some parts of Kitimat will likely still have lingering snow piles into early May.

The snow bank on the right side of the photo has melted away a few feet, but the left is pretty much the same. Two questions. Is that because of direct sun light or it has been helped along? and Does your road turn into a river on warm days? The only one that will mimic melting snow ( )

The snow bank on the right side of the photo has melted away a few feet, but the left is pretty much the same. Two questions. Is that because of direct sun light or it has been helped along? and Does your road turn into a river on warm days? If your front lawn faces to the north it gets little sun and the snow takes a fair bit more time to go. The snow banks on the left in the photo above are facing north east and therefore do not see a lot of sun, though that is changing quickly as spring advances. My front lawn faces north; snow will need a couple of additional weeks to melt compared to lawns on the other side of the street, which face south. Some folks try to speed things up by shovelling snow off their lawn back onto the street. Others get out their garden sprinklers and try to make like the rain and wash it away. Others use their home snow blowers to blow it out onto the road, as in this photo from a couple of springs ago... Photo Date - 6 April 2008
I have never seen our roads turn into rivers as the snow always melts fairly slowly. Kitimat, being very much on the wett coast, has large storm drains everywhere which, if kept open, do a good job of capturing rain and melt water before the roads become rivers.
