Battle of Vimy Ridge: 89 years ago today. An important day in Canadian history, but an important reminder of the futility of "The Great War". ----------------------------------- The Vimy memorial in France, completed just in time for the start of WWII. I'm not sure, but I think that France considers this to be "Canadian soil". I hope to see this memorial some day. War image from Vimy A brief moment of non-horror God bless those veterans A portion of the trenches still preserved No-Man's-Land, the worst place on Earth. Tactics courtesy of the archaic mind of General Douglas Haig --------------------------

I don't think the QPR is ugly. Just needed something to fit the empty spot

Have you ever noticed BC Ferries refers to the one word named vessels as MV Whatever but if it's a Queen or Spirit they almost never put in the MV prefix?
Dane's observation of the day.

I guess Spirit of British Columbia is enough of a mouth full. (mouthful?) Kahloke needs something more. My little contribution: One time a few years ago, I was ranting to a fellow about how crappy it was that Duke Point had no food service, just those goddawful vending machines, and boy was it unreal that BC Ferries thought some dumb vending machines were good enough for people waiting two and a half hours for a ferry.... I knew his last name was Ryan, but I didn't know it was as in Ryan Vending of ferry terminal fame..... oops. He was very gracious, though. Didn't even punch me out.

I HAVE A COMPLAINT. I've had two promotions in this company recently; from oiler, to deckhand, and now to chief steward. Yet I find I'm not being paid anymore than when I was first signed on as an oiler. This is patently unfair. If management expects staff to continue pounding the keyboard, wearing off fingerprints, they should pay a decent living wage, especially when they have assigned people to higher classifcations. If I don't get any satisfaction on this issue, I intend to start agitating for a union.

re promotions without pay
All your pay is being directly transferred to your ProBoards Pension Plan, which is being wisely invested on your behalf

Alright, HMCS Nanaimo, that is somewhat reassuring, since at my age, pensions are no longer something on a very distant horizon... I'll hold off on any further action for now. I trust that the Proboards Pension Plan is involved in ethical investments, and not involved in arms sales to Somali warlords...

I got quite the contract when I got my big promotion 3 months ago. I mod most boards, and I keep this forum looking beautiful. I wonder if John will introduce a new level for the 2500 post mark. Maybe call it Veteran Captain, and at 3000 posts members can get a custom title.

I think I like 'Admiral' better than 'Commissioner'. More WAC Bennett-like. Hmmh.., on second thought, maybe no. At least this company promotes from within. And by the way, not to change the subject or anything, but there's been some talk, and some photos recently, of some really excellent ferry models, and it got me thinking.... has anyone done any really good 1:1 scale models of Sunshine Breakfasts? I mean, there's a part of BC Ferries history that really needs to be preserved for future generations.

Which ship shall we do. I remember the Queen of Burnaby having a weird tasting hollandaise sauce on the Sunshine Breakfast, but when I went on the Queen of Tsawassen the next day they didn't even use hollandaise sauce. It varied between ships I guess.

It would HAVE to have the hollandaise sauce, and it would have to be as bright yellow as possible. Too bad the taste couldn't be reproduced.... or, maybe it could be. You can do anything with chemicals. Ever taste those disgusting Harry Potter vomit flavoured jelly beans? So much like the real thing, it made me want to... Sorry.

It can be made better, it would be intresting thought to have a two tone blue on the vessels.

QB Teen, probably as good as what their design firm came up with, and you probably wouldn't have charged as much. By the way, do you ever feel you're being watched when you look at the bottom of the home page and see that there's an 'invisible user'? Creepy. Who is that wierdo, anyway?

That invisible user is John. I dunno why he likes to do that. It's probably for the same reason the cops have ghost cars.

John H. is the invisible user, as you will never see him as being logged in, but he posts. Regarding him being wierd.....I think he might have a wireless hookup.....but maybe he's on cable-internet? Not too sure about the wires.

Oh no! Am I in trouble? I didn't know it was you, Mr. Hammersmark, I swear! I don't think you're wierd at all! You can be invisible all you like! Please don't put me back to oiler, it's too noisy and smelly down there!
